School of Japanese Studies
Founded in 1964, School of Japanese Studies is the largest Japanese education and training base outside Japan. It is also a model Japanese teaching unit in Liaoning Province. It offers both four-year and five-year programs including Japanese language and culture, computer science, international trade, tourism, Japanese & Korean bilingual education, Japanese and English bilingual education, and advanced translation. It has been authorized to grant Master’s Degrees. With over 2400 undergraduates and 150 postgraduates, it ranks the first among Japanese teaching institutions in China in terms of enrollment. It has six research institutes specializing in the study of Japanese poetry, comparative linguistic study between Chinese and Japanese, Japanese culture, and Japanese education. It also has a pre-departure training base attached to the Ministry of Education for Chinese scholars who intend to do research or further their study overseas.
Its graduates are noted for their Japanese proficiency.
It has enjoyed marvelous strength in oral Japanese teaching for over 40 years, and the students have excelled in international tests and a variety of contests.
It boasts an excellent faculty, and all of them have overseas study or working experiences.
Most of the course books are written by its faculty, and many of them are in extensive use in other universities.

School of English Studies
 
The School of English Studies has a key subject at the provincial level—English Language and Literature. It offers four-year undergraduate programs (Language & Culture, English Education, and Advanced Translation) and a five-year undergraduate program (English -Japanese Bilingual Studies). Authorized to grant master’s degrees, the school has a current enrollment of about 1400 undergraduates and 300 postgraduates.
The students are proficient in English and show remarkable language competence.
The school boasts a strong faculty, 90% of whom are with master’s degrees or above.
Foreign experts are employed on a regular basis.

School of Applied English
School of Applied English aims at cultivating multi-skilled graduates with an international outlook, practical knowledge, proficient English language skills, and knowledge of cross-cultural exchanges. It offers two bachelor programs with four orientations covering English, international economy, international trade, international law, and tourism. There is also a bachelor program in International Trade (English) for sub-degree holders in vocational higher education. It has an enrollment of over 1400 undergraduates and is authorized to grant Master’s Degree.
Trained in both language skills and specialties, its students have strong comprehensive abilities.
Most of the faculty members have Master’s Degrees or Doctor’s Degrees and many of them have overseas study experiences.
Many foreign experts are invited to work here.

Russian Department
The Russian Department offers three undergraduate programs – Russian (language and culture, international trade, Russian-English bilingual education), Arabic, and Italian, of which the Russian program leads to Master's degree. The department has an enrollment of about 400 undergraduates and over 40 postgraduates. Both Basic Russian and Advanced Russian are among quality courses at the provincial level with the latter accredited as a quality course at the national level.
Being currently attached to the Russian Department, the Arabic and Italian programs aim at training multi-skilled talents for the fields of foreign affairs, education, cultural exchanges, trade, journalism, the military and other related areas.
It constantly optimizes its resources and maximizes the students’ development in Russian language skills.
It attaches great importance to the fostering of language competence and practical abilities.
It has an excellent faculty, and 35% of its teaching staff are PhDs.

French Department
The French Department is the first and biggest French teaching institution in Northeast China and it is a permanent member of the National French Teaching Research Society. The department offers two undergraduate programs – French (language and culture, international trade, French-English bilingual education) and Spanish. It has an enrollment of more than 450 undergraduates and over 40 postgraduates. French is authorized to grant Master’s Degree in French language and literature. Initiated in 2003, the Spanish program is the only one of its kind in Liaoning Province. It boasts an excellent faculty with native Spanish Professors.
Native language experts are invited to teach here.
The department attaches great importance to second foreign language teaching. With proficiency in two foreign languages, the graduates are very competitive in the job market.

Korean Department
School of Korean Studies is the largest in size, highest in level, and the strongest Korean teaching institution in China. It offers two undergraduate programs — a five-year bilingual studies program (Korean and Japanese) and a four-year Korean studies program. It is also authorized to grant master’s degrees. Currently, it has more than 500 undergraduate students and nearly 40 postgraduate students. All the teachers in the school has master’s or doctor’s degrees.
It lays emphasis on training students’ basic language skills and fostering their practical abilities and their originality.
It has a research institute of Korean studies, and it has a Korean cultural institute which is the only one in China. Both provide students with a good atmosphere to study and do research.
At least ten Korean teachers are invited to teach in the school each year.

German Department
The German Department is the first and the most influential institution in Northeast China to offer undergraduate program in German. It is also the only institution in this region offering master’s program in the German language. It has an enrollment of 350.
Language courses are well complemented by courses on international trade, science & technology; English learning is greatly strengthened.
Changchun First Automobile Works — Volkswagen is a field work base for the students.
Experts from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) of Germany are invited to teach here all year round.

The School of International Art and Design
The School of International Art and Design is the first to combine foreign language studies and Art studies both in China and the world. It aims at equipping students with good language skills and abilities to create artistic works. It offers two four-year undergraduate programs — Art Design (including garment design, decoration, environment design, and city design) and Music Studies (International Music Culture). It has a current enrollment of about 900.
It lays emphasis on fostering students’ practical abilities and understanding both Chinese culture and Western culture.
Trained in both foreign language skills and art designs, its graduates are very competitive in the job market for their strengths.
Owing to its excellent teaching staff, the students have won a number of awards in domestic and international contests.
The School of International Tourism & Hospitality Management
The school offers an undergraduate program on Tourism Management (English and Japanese) and has an enrollment of more than 700. As a deputy-director member of the Tourism Education Division of Liaoning Tourism Association (LTA), it is appointed to be one of the national training centers for tourist guides.
It aims at cultivating multi-skilled talents in tourism management and foreign languages.
It has established field work bases in a number of five-star international hotels and large travel agencies.

School of Cultural Communications
The School of Cultural Communications is created to meet the demands of the fast-growing regional economy. It aims at training multi-skilled talents who are not only proficient in English but specialize in Chinese education, journalism, Chinese literature and Chinese language. It offers four four-year undergraduate programs: TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language), Journalism, Chinese Literature and Chinese Language. The program of Chinese Language (Chinese Language& Culture and Business Chinese) is exclusively for international students and leads to a master program. The school is also responsible for teaching College Chinese to all the students in the university. Currently, it has an enrollment of more than 400 students, among whom are international students.
Taking advantage of the university’s strength in foreign language education and various international exchange programs, it provides a favorable environment for students to enhance their comprehensive qualities, widen their scope of knowledge, and foster their practical abilities. Students are expected to become the future “Cultural Envoys” to introduce the Chinese culture to the world.
Priority is given to activities involving practice.
It emphasizes both foreign language skills and students’ specialties in order to improve their comprehensive strengths.

School of Software
School of Software was established to meet the demand for versatile talents in the field of IT in the regional economic developmnent of Northeast Asia. It has an enrollment of about 900 students now. It offers two progreams. One is Information Management and Information System, and the other is Computer Science and Tecnology. It offers four-year BA courses and three-year undergraduate courses.
"Foreign Language + IT" makes the students more competitive on the international job market.

School of Chinese Studies
School of Chinese Studies is the largest base of teaching Chinese as a second language in Northeast China. Since its establishment over 20 years ago, it has trained more than 10,000 international students from many different countries who have come to China to learn about the Chinese language and culture. It offers both long-term and short-term language training courses in its BA and MA programs. It has about 1,500 international students now from over 30 countries.
It is the HSK test center in Dalian.
It is the test center of Competence in Chinese as Required by Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in Liaoning Province.
It is the earliest in China to teach foreign students Chinese and offer BA in Chinese to foreigners.
It has regular exchanges with more than 20 universities and 30 civil societies abroad.

School of Continuing Education
The School of Continuing Education comprises of International Training College, School of Adult Education, Overseas Study Service Center, and Test Center. Its responsibilities include providing assistance to students on self-study programs of higher learning, adult higher education, foreign language teaching, training for people going abroad, service for overseas study and more than 20 language testing programs such as TOEFL, GRE, JLPT and WSK in Liaoning Province.
Currently, the School of Continuing Education has exchange programs with a number of foreign universities such as Paichai University、Sang Myung University、Semyung University in the Republic of Korea and Hokuriku University, Kokushikan University, Okayama Shoka University in Japan.
The School of Continuing Education has made remarkable achievements through these years. With its contributions in training more than 300,000 language learners widely recognized, the School of Continuing Education is honored as a national model institution in assisting students on self-study programs.

Department of Social Sciences
     Department of Social Sciences is in charge of all the courses on political theories psychological health of university students and other general selective courses. It has a group focusing on the study and teaching of fundamental principles of Marxism, and a group on the study and teaching of staff of modern Marxism, a group on moral education, and a psychology consultation center.
Department of Non-major Foreign Languages Teaching
     Department of Non-major Foreign Languages takes on the responsibility of non-major foreign languages teaching to all the undergraduates in the university. The languages include English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Korean, Spanish, etc. the department aims at cultivating students’ competence in their second foreign languages.
Department of Physical Education
     Department of Physical Education is in charge of some selective courses in the university. It is responsible for the teaching of P. E. guidance, sports team training, and the organization of sports games. It offers such courses as basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, aerobics, body building, roller skating, ball-room dance and shadow-boxing.
Postgraduate Education
The university is authorized by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council to confer master’s degrees in the following 10 disciplines: Japanese Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, Asian-African Language and Literature (Korean), German Language and Literature, Ideological and Political Education, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Comparative Literature and World Literature, and Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.
