Kanas Lake---A Lake Full of Mystery
Located in the center of the forest belt of the Altai Mountain in Xinjiang, Kanas is a beautiful, rich and mysterious lake known to all. Its changeable colors and mysterious folk tales attract many tourists every year.

Kanas Lake is located at an elevation of 1,374 meters above sea level the shape of bean-pod, 25 kilometers long and 1.6 to 2.9 kilometers wide. The stable water flow, the gently sloping shores and the dense helophyte make it an ideal habitat for fish and waterflow. The mountains surrounding Kanas Lake differ greatly in altitude. Standing on the bank, you can get bird's eye view of the beauty of the lake and its surroundings-the seven scenes of the Altai Mountains with Kanas Lake as its center.

In the south, you can view the Kuitun Mountain wrapped in snow and the towering Youyi Peak. Suuroundings are peaks rising one after another. The forests are like a painted screen. In autumnyou can find that under the blue sky and white cloud the lake surface is just like a beautiful large color palette, whose color varies: some part is heavy in color, some is light, some is blue and some green.

In Kanas Lake, you can view ''Treasure Light'', which is called by local people ''Buddha Light''. It, integrating with the beautiful Kanas Lake view, the white glaciers, the green grassland, the boundless forest, and the mist in mountains, will make you feel as if you were in a fairyland. When the sun rises in the morning or at the time it is getting dark after sunset, on a boat on the lake or standing on the platform at the lake center, if you are luck, you can see the mysterious ''lake monster'' like a small boat, appearing or disappearing.

Besides the famous legends about "Kanas Monster", the "Emei Spectacle" that lights up the clouds after a morning rain, adds another air of mystery to the lake. The practices of the Tuwa Tribe and Altai Mountain rock-paintings have been attracting explorers and travelers to this area for decades.
