Welcome to Migong Temple
Migong Temple was called Baojin Temple, located in the northwest of Wuwei County, Xiangfan City of Hubei Province, which was built in 1104 by Mifu, the famous calligrapher in North Song Dynasty. Mifu was fascinated with the calligraphy of Jin Dynasty, so when he had got and collected calligraphy of some famous person, he established this temple to put his collections and called it Baojin Temple.
 
The main sights in the temple include Jushan temple, Mochi Lake, Touyan Pavilion, Baishi Stone and other over 10 scenic attractions. In addition to the beautiful sights, there are more than 150 pieces of stone inscriptions from many dynasties since Dang Dynasty. They are rare and precious which have highly historical values and artistic values and therefore, the temple was reputed to be the treasury of calligraphy. Nowadays, it is a key cultural relic under provincial protection and national AA scenic spot.
 
Legends and Stories
In front of the temple lies the Mochi Lake (in Chinese “Ink Lake”) and Touyan Pavilion (in Chinese “Throwing Ink-stone Pavilion”) where Mifu read books and wrote calligraphy. There was a legend about the two sights. One night when Mifu wrote calligraphy in the pavilion, the frogs in the lake were so noisy that he could not to write, so he took out an ink-stone and wrote the “stop” on it and threw it into the lake. Then the noise suddenly disappeared. From then on, the water became black like ink and was called Mochi Lake, and the pavilion was called Touyan Pavilion.
 

On the north bank of the lake, there is a stone called “Baishi”. According to historical materials, when Mifu was the governor of Wuwei County, there was a strange stone on the bank of Wuwei River and nobody dared to take it off. However, Mifu took it home and worshipped it every day, admiring it as if it is his brother. People were so surprised about it. Now, it is still in this temple.
