About Nanjing
Nanjing (meaning southern capital) is one of the six ancient capitals of China, it is the capital of Jiangsu province and it is renowned for being an educational and cultural center, with a large student (foreign and native Chinese) population. Nanjing is a pretty place, with tree-lined streets, hills and lakes, making the intense heat of east China's summers more bearable.
Area:over 6000 sq km

Population:over 6.2million

Location: situated on the middle and lower reaches of the Yangzi river in eastern China

Climate:Located in the subtropical climatic zone and surrounded on all sides by mountains which keep heat in, Nanjing is known as one of the three “furnaces of China” (the other two are Wuhan and Chongqing). Nanjing’s average annual temperature is 15 degrees Celsius (59 Fahrenheit) and the annual average rainfall is 1106mm. October is the best month to visit Nanjing. Travelers can beat the summer heat, avoid the cold of winter, and stay dry from the spring showers.

Scenery Spots in Nanjing
Xuyuan Garden
While Xuyuan Garden in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province covers an area only a little more than four acres, it occupies an important place in Chinese history. Despite its relatively small size, it is also renowned for its unique southern China gardening style. It is located at No. 292 on Changjiang Road. Built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Xuyuan Garden derives its name from a prince, Zhu Gaoxu, who once lived there. Later the garden became the residence for the governors of Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces. Xuyuan is also known as West Garden for it was located west of the palace of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1851-1864). The kingdom was established by a peasant leader, Hong Xiuquan, who then proclaimed himself the king. The garden later served as the presidential mansion of Sun Yat-sen, the Interim President of the Republic of China (1912-1949).

Nanjing Museum
Covering an area of 12.9 hectare, Nanjing Museum is situated inside the Zhongshan Gate of the city from which it takes its name. It was originally established in 1933, proposed by Mr. Cai Yuanpei (a modern democratic revolutionary and educationist), and now numbers among its extensive collections some 2,000 first class treasures of national and cultural interest. Should you be fascinated by the long and cultured history of China, then this museum is a "must-see" for you. Let it be an absolutely indispensable part of your itinerary. Valuable treasures: The two main buildings, in a style of a blend of east and west, we find a veritable feast of historical and revolutionary cultural relics, paintings, calligraphies, and ancient books - some of them from abroad. Among them the most representative ones are a large number of porcelains from the palace of Qing dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC), and relics excavated from ruins of Shang dynasty (16th - 11th century BC).
