Shandong Economic University (SEU) , originally as Shandong Institute of Economics, a full-time comprehensive institution of higher learning, was founded upon approval by Shandong Provincial Government in 1952. It is one of the earliest established ordinary advanced institute of finance and economics in Shandong Province, and it was renamed Shandong Economic University in 1978.
SEU currently has an enrolment of 24,601students, including undergraduates, postgraduates and 3-year degree students
Giving priority to scientific research, SEU has been actively carrying on both basic and applied research, and increasing the support for both. As a result, the scientific research is making breakthrough progress. During the past five years, 423 research projects have been undertaken; 44 of these are funded by the State Social Science Foundation, the State Natural Science Foundation, the State Soft Science Research Project or the Ministry of Education; 58 have won awards from Shandong Provincial Government. Additionally, 4988 thesis have been published in academic journals at home and abroad, and 10 academic monographs have been published.
At present, there are within SEU 44 independent research institutes, such as Shandong Regional Economy Research Institute. There are 1 provincial key laboratory, 2 provincial soft-science research bases, 3 provincial key social sciences research bases, 3 provincial humanities & social sciences research bases, and 1 provincial engineering technology research center. Shandong Economy, a comprehensive economics theoretical journal directed by SEU, and published at home and abroad, is one of the core journals of China Humanities and Social Science Periodical.
SEU consists of two campuses. The main campus is located at the east part of Jinan, the Spring City and capital of Shandong Province. The other campus, known as Mingshui campus, is located in Mingshui, 29 miles to the east of the main campus. The two campuses cover 105 hectares of land and another 162 hectares has already been accounted for future development plans.
SEU has a wide range of teaching facilities and a public service system. On the campus itself there are a computer centre and laboratories for Accounting Simulation, Finance, International Business and Enterprise Management as well as 85 places of internship outside the university, which can be used by the students to practise their skills. Currently SEU provides a total of 176 multi-media classrooms, 4139computers and further equipment for teaching and research. In addition to this an Ethernet is built to link all parts of SEU with each other. The newly built library owns advanced equipment, offers extensive possibilities for the students and contains an abundant number of study materials, such as 1.7396 million books, 400,000 electronic books and 13,279 Chinese and foreign periodicals.
