Study Chinese language (Bachelor) at Jinan University

Length of Study: A standard credit system is adopted for the undergraduate program. The standard length of study is 4 years. Students can either graduate earlier or postpone their graduation until requirements are fully met.
 
Application requirements:
1) Enrollment without examination
Any high school graduates with a relatively high level of Chinese proficiency (including reading, writing and listening ability), recommended by Chinese embassies, consulates or charge affairs abroad or leaders of ethnic Chinese communities, can apply directly to the Admissions Office of Jinan University, or apply through local Enrollment Affairs Office of Jinan University, and will be subject to enrollment without examination according to their academic performance in the middle school.
 
2) Enrollment by examination
High school graduates with a relatively low degree of Chinese proficiency who apply to bachelors degree programs are required to take the HSK test of China (the Chinese Proficiency Test) and reach C level. High school graduates with a relatively high degree of English proficiency can apply directly to the International School of Jinan University. Students who have no Chinese background who want to apply to our bachelor degree program on Chinese Language please read the prospectus of our College of Chinese Language and Culture.

Details of the course
A. Chinese Language Class A (Chinese Information Processing, Chinese Language and Character Application)
 
Aim of Training: This major fosters applied-Chinese talents that grasp systematic knowledge and professional skills in computer language processing, Chinese philological application and Chinese literature, being capable of engaging language information processing, programming and management of Chinese Characters, journalism and publishing, commercial language design and secretarial skills. 
 
Main Courses: Language Processing (Basic Programming and Application, Information Processing in Chinese, Internet Applications, Computational Linguistics, Experimental Phonetics, Corpus Linguistics); Social Pragmatics (Language of Public Relations, Secretarial Studies, Editorial Studies, Language in Law, Language in Journalism, Business Language, Composition, and Advertisement Language); Linguistics and Literature (Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, History of Chinese Linguistics, Studies of Chinese Characters, Phonology and Critical Interpretation of Ancient Texts, Socio-linguistics, Psycholinguistics ,English Listening and Speaking Skills, Communicative English, Introduction to Literature, Classic Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, and Foreign Literature, etc.).
 
B. Chinese Language Class B (including two specializations: Chinese Language and Culture, and Commercial Chinese)
 
Aim of Training: This major fosters applied-Chinese talents that grasp systematic knowledge and professional skills in Chinese, with a general understanding of China. In addition, it enables graduates to engage in occupations related with Chinese language.
 
Main courses: Basic Chinese, Chinese Listening and speaking, Chinese Reading, Chinese Intensive Reading, Basic Writing, Modern Chinese Grammar, China Today, Chinese Folk Customs, Computer Application, etc. For Chinese language and culture specialization, there are some specialized Chinese courses including Advanced Chinese, Applied Writing, Chinese Communication, Audio-Visual Chinese, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, and Chinese Traditional Culture, etc. For Commercial Chinese specialization, there are Intensive Reading in Business Chinese, Oral Chinese for Business, Business Chinese Writing, Modern Chinese Economy, Practice of International Business.
