College of Electric Power and Automation Engineering
College of Electric Power and Automation Engineering has two departments which are Electric Power Engineering and Automation Control, with four majors namely Electric Engineering and its Automation, Industrial Automation, Measure and Control Technology and Instrumentation, and Power-driven Engineering and Management. The college has two experiment centers, namely Electric Power and its Automation and Electrical Engineering and Electron, and a research institute of Electrical Science and Technology.
In 2004, the College cooperated with British University of Strathclyde to run “the major of Electric Engineering and its Automation”.
There are 10 professors and 26 associate professors in the College, among them there are 2 Ph.D. tutors. The number of undergraduate students (including those of China and Britain cooperating class) and Higher Vocational College students is 3156.
This college offers studies that have great strength in research and development of the following areas: Layout and Design of Electric Nets, Analysis and Control of Electric Power Systems, Monitor and Diagnosis of Electronic Equipment, Quality Analysis and Control of Electric Energy, Evaluation and Transformation of Electric Power Systems, Trouble Orientation of Transmission Lines, Handling-ticket System of Intelligent Dispatchs, Gentle Transmitting Electricity Technology, Process Examination of Generating Plant and Automatic Device, Information Technology of Electric Power Systems and Application of Intelligent Theories, and Control Engineering of Generating Plants. Among them, part of the research directions are lead in China. During the 10th Five-Year Plan, the College has taken on more than 100 scientific research projects which include National “863” Projects, the Shanghai Key Scientific and the Technological Tackling Projects, the Shanghai Natural Science foundation Projects. The total amount of scientific research appropriations reaches nearly 20,000,000 RMB. The College has been awarded 6 accomplishment prizes for its education and scientific research from the Province or Ministry. It owns several patents, published 15 monographs, translation works and teaching material, published 300 or so theses in domestic and foreign academic periodicals and more than 70 theses in core periodicals among which 20 theses were included in three important international searches. Also it has taken on 2 projects of Shanghai Exquisite Course Construction, and the output value of application and dissemination and transformation of scientific and technological achievements amounts to tens of millions RMB.
 
College of Energy and Environment Engineering
College of Energy and Environment Engineering consists of 5 parts which are the Power Engineering Department, the Environment Engineering Department, the Experiment Center, the Key Lab and Research Institute of Energy and Environmental Protection. There are 2 majors in Power Engineering Department: a specialized subject of Thermal Energy and Power Engineering and a specialized subject of Mechanics Engineering and Automation; there are 3 majors in the Environment Engineering Department: a specialized subject of Chemistry Technology and Water Treatment, a specialized subject of Environment Engineering, and a specialized subject of Material Chemistry.
There are 50 full-time and part-time faculty members who are engaged in teaching and scientific research in the College. Among them, 27 persons are qualified in holding an office of senior title with a technical post, 18 persons have doctor’s degrees. Among the middle-aged and young teachers below 45 years old, 43% of them are faculty members with doctor’s degree and 54% of them are faculty with the qualification of holding an office of senior title of a technical post.
After several-years of construction, the College now owns complete facilities for teaching, experimentation, and scientific research. During the period of three years from 2002 to 2004, the College has signed 112 scientific research projects and the total amount of appropriations is 9,754,380 RMB; published 131 theses. The scientific research projects include the National Natural Science Foundation Project (2 projects), the Aerospace Scientific Research Project (2 projects), and the Shanghai Science Committee Significant Scientific Research Project. The College has participated in several projects of National 863 Plan Project, Shanghai Significant Scientific, Technological Tackling Project, and many major scientific research projects of enterprise and institution. Some research achievements have reached the advanced international level and been awarded first prize, second prize, and third prize of Science and Technology Progress from former Ministry of Electric Power Industry, East China Electric Bureau, and Electric Power Bureaus of various provinces, respectively.
 
College of Computer and Information Engineering
College of Computer and Information Engineering has a Computer Science and an Engineering Department, a Communication Engineering Department, an Electron and Information Engineering Department, with four majors: Computer science and technology, Communication Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and two research institutes: Information Technology and Electronic Engineering.
There are 50 faculty members in the College. Among them, there are 10 professors, associate professors and senior engineers. Among the teaching staff, there are 24 persons holding doctor’s degrees or master’s degrees. The number of present students is 1646.
In the recent 5 years, the College has completed and is still working on 27 scientific research projects, applied for 1 patent and the total amount of appropriations is about 5,000,000 RMB. It has published more than 50 theses in which there are 20 theses on core periodicals and won several prizes from the ministry, the provincial, and the municipal levels.
 
College of Management and Humanity
College of Management and Humanity has 2 departments: the Economy Management Department and the Social Science Department. Economy Management Department is composed of 3 majors: Business Administration, Information Management and Information System, and International Trade. The Social Science Department has one major: Public Affairs Management. There are three research institutes: Electric Power Enterprise Administration, Individually-run Economy, and Electric Power Finance. Among nearly 50 teachers, there are 3 professors, 11 associate professors, one post-doctor. Most of the teachers own a doctor’s degree or a master’s degree. The number of present students is 1400.
Among the teachers, one has gained the title of Shanghai Excellent Education Staff, one has won Bao-steel Education Teaching Prize, three persons have been awarded the title of “Excellent Teacher” of the Ministry of Electric Power, and two persons have won Shanghai Educating Talent Prize. In recent years, the achievements of scientific research and teaching reform are very abundant. The College has published 20 works and teaching materials together with almost 200 theses. “Four Modernizations Teaching Methods” won Electric Power Ministry Teaching Achievement Excellent Prize; “Star and Fire Spinning Mode” of the cooperated teaching in output, study, and research won the second prize of Shanghai Output and Study Cooperation Teaching Excellent Stage Achievement, and the related excellent thesis was awarded the first prize. It also won the third prize of Shanghai Institutions of Higher Learning Excellent Teaching Material, the honorable prize of State Electric Power Association Excellent theses, and the second prize of 2005 Shanghai Excellent Teaching Achievement.
 
College of International Exchange
With the approval from the State Ministry of Education, the college has run 3 four-year Sino-British Educational programs: BEng Electric Power and its Automation, BSc Computer Science and Technology, BSc Measure and Control Technology & Instrumentation with the University of Strathclyde and the University of Hertfordshire. The college recruits 210 students each year. Through the Sino-British cooperation, both parties make full use of their high quality educational resources and the cooperation has fully promoted the internationalization and the teaching work of our university.
 
Department of Mathematics and Physics
The Department of Mathematics and Physics consists of five teaching research groups: information science, financial mathematics, computational mathematics, physics, and computer graphs; one lab of physics; and, two scientific research sections, engineering computation and optimization, and solar energy.
The Department of Mathematics and Physics has a major of information and computational science, with three specialized subject orientations: information science, computational mathematics and financial mathematics. We aim to train students into talented personnel with higher professional skills and mathematical ability, who can use the computer, master basic theory and method of computing mathematics, information science and financial mathematics to solve practical problems with mastered knowledge so that they can be engaged in teaching research, developing software, and management. The department has a staff of 53, among them there are 2 professors, 14 associate professors, 22 lecturers and 39 teachers with master or doctor degrees. Great achievements have been made in teaching and scientific research with some teachers having been awarded state science and technological progress prizes, Shanghai Municipal teaching prize and some teachers are granted governmental special allowance for their special contributions to teaching and scientific research. In the past few years, 60 teaching and scientific research papers were published in domestic and foreign magazines with a scientific research fund of more than 1 million RMB.
 
Department of Foreign Languages
The Department of Foreign Languages has a major of English language with three specialized subject orientations: business, scientific translation, travel, and literature. The objective of this major is to bring up competent personnel both proficient in English and well grounded in various business areas by intensive training of English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. The number of present students is 623.
The department has a staff of 61, among them 6 professors, 7 associate professors, 16 lecturers and 28 postgraduates with Master or Doctor degrees. The department has undertaken 5 state and municipal scientific research projects. More than 20 academic books and 110 papers have been published in recent years.
 
College of Higher Vocational Technology
College of Higher Vocational Technology aims at bringing up competent personnel with a solid basic knowledge and with proficient skills in operating, to meet the need of the modern industrial process. It has specialized subjects such as computer techniques and application (network and communication engineering, e-business, and advertisement design), urban electric supply techniques, refrigeration and air conditioning techniques, business administration (electric enterprise management), relay protection, concentrated control operation of power house , microprocessor control of power house and electric power system, and its automation. It has a full-time staff of 20 and the number of present students is 640.
 
College of Adult Education
With the guideline of being rigorous, realistic, open and creative, the college has turned out a large number of talented personnel to serve the electric industry and local economic development.
The college has 14 undergraduate and specialized subjects and has enrolled 8300 students. A style of multi-level, multi-form, and multi-specialized subjects has been built up. At present, 15 correspondence schools and teaching sites have been established in East China forming a three-level teaching management model. The college attaches much importance to the construction of text books and has written and published more than 100 textbooks with the characteristics in the electric field. Those textbooks dealing with enterprise culture, personnel resource management, quality check management, quality controller , registering cost evaluator and especially, business administration and enterprise culture training have much influence on the electric power field.
 
Scientific Research Work and Its Achievements
The university has an academic team of teachers made up of honorary professors, Ph.D. program tutors, professors, and teachers with Ph.D. and with a constant R&D fund of 10 million RMB each year. In 2004, this fund was increased to 25 million RMB, the average per capita ranking first in universities and colleges in Shanghai and ranking second in the country. Faculty members have undertaken or participated in several hi-tech projects such as National “863” Key Projects, National Science Foundation, “Rising Star” Program of Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, “Dawn Plan” of Shanghai Education Committee, and other key science and technology items of Shanghai. The university has achieved much in combination involving teaching, research, and production. The application of scientific research achievements in production has brought about remarkable economic benefit and social effect. The achievement in ten scientific research projects are advanced with many awards respectively from the state, with Shanghai Municipal and State Power Corporation of China and national property right patents. More and more scientific research papers have been indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP.
 
Chinese Language Courses
Shanghai University of Electric Power has established long-term Chinese language courses and short-term courses in Chinese language and Chinese culture. The university combines traditional language studies with practice in daily-life and achieving international exposure. The university will tailor language and cultural courses with different focuses to cater for the various needs of overseas students.

Thermal Power Engineering and Power Engineering
In this major, students are taught the basic theory of power engineering and thermal physics engineering, transformation of various forms of energies, and theory and technology of effective use of different forms of energies. Graduates are capable of tasks in design, production, operation, testing and research, installation, development and marketing in the fields of thermal power engineering, air-conditioning and refrigeration projects.
 
Environmental Engineering
Through this study students can grasp basic theory and testing methods in environmental engineering, acquire fundamental knowledge of application and research, and reach an understanding of the latest achievements and research development in environmental science and engineering. Students have the potential to be trained for high-level positions specializing in design, construction, technical development, operation and management; as well as academic positions in the fields of environmental protection, pollution control and water treatment.
 
Electrical Engineering and its Automation
Students receive basic training in electrical engineering, electronic and information control, and computer technology with the capacity to resolve problems in the fields of electrical engineering and controlling, electrical and electronic technologies.
 
Electric Engineering and Management
This major is targeted to train students for high-level management, empowered with the fundamental knowledge and expertise in electrical engineering, and management skills in economics, information and modern engineering projects.
 
Automation
This major is primarily to teach about controlling and engineering sciences with a focus on electrical engineering and computer science and technology. Students are trained for careers in system design and operation, hardware and software development, equipment maintenance and management, with knowledge and skills in electrical engineering and electronic technologies, controlling theory, testing and measuring, automation instruments, electronic communication, information management and decision-making, etc.
 
Automation (Applicable in power plants)
This major trains students to become technicians specializing in automation in power plants. The training target and main courses are basically identical to the AUTOMATION major, above-mentioned. In addition, this major has reinforced special training in the automation skills applied in various power plants by using fossil, hydro, wind and solar energy.
 
Measure & Control Technology of Instrumentation
This major is based on instrumental science and technology supported by electrical engineering, and computer science and technology. Students are trained to undertake tasks of systematic analysis, design and operation, and scientific and technology research and development in the field of surveying and controlling technologies and instruments. Graduates are empowered with fundamental theory and engineering skills in electric and electron, computer, controlling and testing and network communication.
 
Computer Science and Technology
The major of Computer Science and Technology of our university combines software and hardware technologies theoretically and practically, and is targeted towards the application of computer in the power and related industries
 
Who-to-Apply:

3.      Having passed HSK 3. (Applicants without HSK 3 can firstly enroll to study Chinese language for one year at SUEP before being admitted into the formal study for the bachelor degree)
