Every applicant may contact the Admissions Office of the School of International Education (SIE) by fax, by mail, by email or in person. Then SIE will mail the Application Form and related reference material to the applicant. After filling the Form, the applicant should send it and other required documents back to the Admissions Office.
When the applicant is admitted, SIE will send a letter of admission and the JW-202 Form to the applicant to apply a visa from the Chinese Embassy or its consulate in the applicant’s home country. Applicants for master’s or bachelor’s degree programs should apply in the period from August 1 to September 10 and arrive at the university before September 20. Generally, a master’s degree program lasts for three years and a bachelor’s degree program lasts for four years. Applicants for short-term certificate Chinese programs may apply at any time, but applicants for long-term (one semester or one year) certificate Chinese programs should apply in January or July and the classes start respectively in March and September.
All Chinese certificate students will be divided into the primary level, intermediate level or advanced level classes according to their Chinese proficiency by taking a test after their arrival. All admitted international students should arrive at the university to get registered at least two days before the class or a new semester starts. For the registration, every student is required to submit the JW-202 Form, the passport and three recent head photos, and pays the Tuition and the mandatory fees. The university will apply for a Temporary Stay Permit for every student from the local police department and help him or her go through all other necessary procedures.
SIE will pick up the new students at the airport or the railway Station when they arrive in Kunming, but each student needs to inform SIE of the exact date and number of the flight or the train ahead of time.
