An Introduction to School of Accounting

The School of Accounting now has two major disciplines: accountancy and financial Management, the former being authorized to enroll postgraduates in 1978 and to confer master’s degrees in 1981. In 1986, the discipline of accountancy was authorized to start the doctoral program and to confer doctor’s degree. It started its postdoctoral program in 1995 and was accredited by the Ministry of Finance in 1997 and Ministry of Education respectively as the key discipline on the ministerial and state level. In 1994, ACCA Test Training Center was established. In 2004, the discipline was listed as one of the 21 experimental units on the state level to try the conduct of MPAcc. At present, the two disciplines enjoy strong faculty force, full academic orientations of research, good quality of teaching, and great prestige home and abroad, and have become the cultivating bases of the talents of accounting, auditing, and finance.

 Major Research Orientations

Accounting Theories, History of Accounting and Auditing and the Ideological History, Financial Accounting, International Accounting, Auditing, Accounting of Cost Management, and Enterprises Finance, etc.

 Academic Team and Forerunners

The School of Accounting owns a teaching staff with high academic background and academic titles, ideal age structure, and remarkable achievements in scientific research. There are now 65 full-time teachers, among which 44 have doctor’s or master’s degrees, with a percentage of 67%. There are 15 professors and 24 associate professors, with the percentage of 23% and 40% respectively. Two of the teachers are the chief members of international academic institution of accounting, and one is the person-in- charge of prestigious international academic society. 6 teachers have been granted the State Council expert allowance. 4 teachers are now major person-in-charge of national academic society and 20 teachers are now directors and members of national academic societies of accounting. 18 teachers hold the positions of chief editor, deputy editor, compilers of important academic periodicals of our country. A disciplinary and academic team has thus been formed with a group of prestigious scholars Guo Daoyang, Luo Fei, Zhang Longping, Xia Chengcai, Tang Guoping, and Xu Jialin as its forerunners.

 Major achievements in Scientific Research

In recent years, over 600 theses have been published on various academic journals, and over 100 textbooks and monographs have been compiled and published. The School has taken up over 50 research projects of educational reform of accounting sponsored by State Natural Science Fund, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, and the Department of Education of Hubei, many of which have been awarded prizes of scientific research on the state level and ministerial and provincial level. The research of Chinese history of accounting and auditing remains in the leading place home and abroad, and has filled the vacuum of research of Chinese history of accounting.

 Objectives of Disciplinary Construction

We are striving to build the discipline of accountancy into world-famous key discipline on a state level with first-rate academic team, good quality of cultivation, rich achievements in scientific research, first-class facilities for teaching and research, and high level of management. We are also determined to build Financial Management into first-rate key discipline at home.
