By the end of 2006, the total number of foreign students in China is 162,695, a 15.3% increase over the year of 2005.

These students are from 184 countries and regions of the world. These foreign students are currently studying at 519 universities, institutes and colleges in 31 provinces in China.

Information about High School Programs for Foreign Students

High school programs for foreign students can be divided into two main categories, one-semester exchange program and regular high school program. There are many schools that offer one-semester programs - local high schools, international schools and private language institutes. Foreign students enroll into programs that offered by Chinese local high schools are able to spend more time with local Chinese students and participate in more local student’s activities.

For regular high school program, foreign students will obtain their high school diplomas and apply for Chinese universities. Students will need to prepare for the HSK test (the Chinese Proficiency Test), which is required for university admission. Generally speaking, students who have good grade on the HSK test are able to get into the top Universities in China.
