David Beckham Detailed Biography

Born in Leytonstone on May 2, 1975, David Robert Joseph Beckham was a Manchester United fan from a very early age. He even insisted on wearing a Red Devils shirt when training with London club Tottenham Hotspur as a schoolboy. The admiration was mutual – the biggest football club in the world had its eye on the young player.
Soccer has always been the biggest thing in David Beckham's life. He used to play for hours when he was a kid. Beckham and his father would kick the ball around until it was too dark to see each other. Because he was always kicking the ball around, David Beckham never did all that well at school. Beckham failed out when he was 16 and went to play soccer for Manchester United's Jr. Team. David played his first pro game for Manchester two years later when he was 18.
By 1996, David Beckham was a regular with the team and one of the most popular players in England - by helping the team win an FA Cup and a Premier Division title in the same year. In 2002, David Beckham helped England advance to the quarter-finals of the World Cup of Soccer in Korea and Japan, where the English lost to the eventual champions from Brazil.
In 2003, David Beckham was transferred to Real Madrid for a mind-boggling $40 million. After a disappointing season with Real Madrid, David Beckham is hoping he can lead England to victory in Euro 2004.
David Beckham's success in soccer means he's now making a ton of cash. David Beckham makes more than $15 million dollars a year playing for Real Madrid and zillions more from advertising endorsements.
That's allowed him to pick up some nice toys as well. Beckham now owns seven cars, including a custom built Ferrari, a Porshe 911, a Range Rover, and a Jaguar. When David Beckham's not scoring goals for his team, he hangs out with his wife, Victoria Adams (Posh Spice of the Spice Girls) and their sons Brooklyn (born in March 1999,) and Romeo, (born in September, 2002.
They also have two dogs named Snoop and Puffy (after Beckham's favorite rappers, Puff Daddy and Snoop Dog). So between scoring goals, making music and cleaning up after their son and dogs, this family keeps very busy.
Beckham stars as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- English soccer star David Beckham met with children in Sierra Leone on Saturday as part of his role as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, the U.N. child agency.
The LA Galaxy midfielder arrived in West Africa late on Friday on a two-day trip to a country.
"He's here as a guest of UNICEF," the charity's spokeswoman Alison Parker told Reuters by telephone. "He's covering programs on child survival in Sierra Leone; visiting a number of UNICEF programs in the northern part of the country on malaria prevention and immunization."
The former England captain traveled beyond the hot hilly coastal capital Freetown on Saturday to rural areas in the north of the country.
Football is the most popular sport in the country. Many taxis in Freetown bear huge stickers devoted to Manchester United, Beckham's old team.
Beckham hopes to play for Capello's opener
LONDON, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Major League Soccer side L.A. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham hopes he can play for his former club boss Fabio Capello in England's friendly international against Switzerland at Wembley next month.
Former Real Madrid manager Capello was named as the new England manager last month.
"I'm there to get my fitness for the MLS season and also to try to get fit for the England game," Beckham was quoted by Reuters as saying on Sunday.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has this week been training with Arsenal during the MLS off-season in a bid to make sure he regains full fitness after an injury-plagued first term in the United States.
"Even if it wasn't just for the 100th cap, for an England game I'd do the same. I want to be fit and be available for Mr Capello's first team and first game," he added.
Capello dropped Beckham last season in Madrid when it was announced the Englishman would be joining Los Angeles Galaxy.
Capello later relented, however, and midfielder Beckham went on to play a key role as Real won the Primera Liga title.
Beckham eager to work with Capello
LONDON, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- David Beckham is keen to get the chance to work under his former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello with England.
New England boss Capello dropped Beckham last season when it was announced the Englishman would be joining Los Angeles Galaxy.
Capello later relented, however, and midfielder Beckham went onto play a key role as Real won the Primera Liga title.
Beckham, speaking in a BBC Radio Two interview to be broadcast on Christmas Day, said: "Fabio is one of the managers players lookup to and want to manage them. I hope I'll be part of his plans.
"I think he is going to be great for the players and the England team."
Beckham admits he had problems under Capello but is glad he was able to sign off at the Bernabeu in such style and was sorry when the Italian was sacked by the club.
The 32-year-old, who has 99 England caps, added: "There were ups and downs with me and the manager at the time but he brought me back into the team and he had the belief in me to put me back in the team.
"It gave me an amazing end and I was sad when he got the sack as I believe he had turned the club and the players around and given the fans what they deserved, a trophy.
"I think he is a great appointment for England. Everyone wants someone leading you that has respect and success. He has definitely got that in his career."
