A Brief Introduction
The Institute Of Tourism Of Beijing Union University is the public university which is belong to the Beijing Education Committee. It was set up in the year 1978. There are ten areas of specialization including four-year courses and higher vocational study. Currently, our Institute has an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students. The international students were received from 1993, there are more than 200 international students are studying here now.
GUIDELINES FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
MAJOR COURSES OF STUDY
Tourism Management (four-year program)
Objective:
The principal aim is to teach students the rules and the processes of tourism market management; to trainstudents to become senior supervisory personnel enabling them to undertake the operation and managementof a tourism company and other companies in related fields. During the first year of study, students take basic courses. The second year is divided into seven areas of specialization: tourism management, international hotel management, travel industry site exploration and management, culinary arts and nutrition, property management,large party planning and management, and golf club management.
Major courses:
management science, macro economics, micro economics, information management engineering, statistics, accounting, finance management, marketing , an introduction to tourism , tourism economics, industry and policy, the methods and study of tourism research, exploration and management of tourism resources, strategic management of the tourism industry, and tourism management of human resources, English, computer science.
 
Tourism management 2four-year program)
Objective
The course is the beginning of Chinese, The principal aim is to teach students to have the skills of Chinese tourism, tourism management, basic theory and good practical ability, to train the students to understand Chinese customs, history and national conditions, to have a high level of Chinese and communication skills and to have ability in tourism management, tour guides , translation with Chinese.
Major courses:
Basic Chinese knowledge(in the first two years), a survey of Chinese, tourism speaking, tourism psychology, management science, tourism of Chinese sight, knowledge of Chinese cultural, basic knowledge of guide, translation skills, tourism economics, public relations, HSK, tourism investigation etc .


Hotel Management (four-year program)
Objective:
The principal aim is to teach students the basic theory of hotel management and hotel operations, including the required specialized technology. The program also includes the study of foreign cultures and the English language in order for graduates to speak fluently and be able to adapt to the international tourism industry. Upon graduation, the students will have the opportunity to become senior personnel in the field of hotel management.
Major courses:
basic economics, introduction to modern management, tourism legislation, introduction to e-commerce, expense and service psychology, hotel management,
hotel lobby management, guest-room management, food management, public relations, and marketing, hospitality etiquette, culture, English intensive reading, practical oral English (speaking) and listening, professional English, computer science.
Meal nutrition (four-year program)
Objective:
The principal aim is to teach students with professional skill to love the meal nutrition project, have the firm foundation of theories, professional knowledge and technical skills and ability of preparing dishes, the basic knowledge of cooking and ability of applying, English and computer ,the students will have the opportunityto become the senior personnel in the fields of meal nutrition analyzing ,inspection, meal arrangement, supervising, management, scheme, marketing in hotel industry, food and beverage industry, group meal supplying branch, educationand training etc.
Major courses:
Food microbiology, food chemistry, nutriology, food analysis and examination, food quantity management, food hygiene, food and beverage management , Chinese cooking technique, western cooking technique, Chinese dietotherapy, meal nourishment design, beverage,arts of tea,computer,etc.
Chinese Food and Beverage Art(three-year program)
Objective:
The principal aim is to train students for senior hotel management positions by teaching the students the necessary skills for modern hotel, restaurant, and kitchen operations including, operation cost accounting and financial control, graduates will have a good command of many varieties of Chinese cuisine.
Major courses:
summary of hotel management, the theory of cooking, the chemistry of cooking, food ingredients, Chinese culinary arts, cold and hot cuisine art, food carving art, food hygiene and safety, English, computer science, and practical experience within hotels.
Chinese Courses (half a year-one year)
Junior Level Chinese
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:20-11:45
Major courses:Chinese phonetics, methods of pronunciation, elementary intensive Chinese, basic speaking, and elementary listening comprehension.
Middle level Chinese
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:20-11:45
Major courses: middle intensive Chinese, reading, writing, speaking, grammar, tourism communication, middle level listening, and comprehension.
Senior Level Chinese and Preparation for Professional Occupations
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:20-11:45
Major courses: senior intensive Chinese, senior listening, general speaking, senior reading, grammar, exten sive reading, writing Chinese, Chinese history and culture
Part-Time Chinese Courses 1-3months )
Junior Chinese (part-time) one to three months
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 13:30-15:30, 15:30-17:30, 17:30-19:30
Major courses: Chinese 301, junior speaking, junior accelerated Chinese and the HSK (junior).
Middle Level Chinese (part-time) one to three months
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 13:30-15:30, 15:30-17:30, 17:30-19:30
Major courses: tourism speaking, daily speaking, middle level accele rated Chinese, and the HSK (middle level).
Senior Chinese and Preparation for Professional Occupations (part-time) one to three months
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 13:30-15:30, 15:30-17:30, 17:30-19:30
Major courses: Chinese grammar, newspaper reading, topic speaking, and the HSK (senior level).

Short-term Program in Chinese and Chinese Cooking
The short -term program in Chinese and Chinese Cooking range from two weeks to one month with a group of ten or more. The fees are determined according to the demands and the schedules of the applicants.
Major courses:to learn a little Chinese and to train the students the skills of Chinese cooking.
Applicants may fill out the “Beijing Institute of Tourism International Students Application Form” , and submit a graduation certificate, school report. letter of undertaking, an HSK certificate (undergraduate and senior college students), three personal photos, and application fee to the Department of International Students. Upon receipt of the JW202 form and the “ A dmission Notice ” from the Department of International Students, applicants may take these two documents to the local Chinese Embassy to apply for an X visa, and then register at our Department of International Students. Applicants may also take an “ L ” or “ F ” visa to our school for replacement of the visa and complete registration requirements.
1 Academic Programs and tuition for international students: The students who major in four years will receive a B.S.and a B.A. degree upon graduation.
