Departments and Institutes
Departments and institutes engaged in teaching and research include Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management,Department of English and International Studies, Department of Foreign Languages, Department of International Law, Department of International Economy, Department of Basic Education, Department of Graduate Studies, School of International Education, plus Research Institute of International Law and Research Institute of International Relations. Two national-level associations – the Chinese Society of International Law and the China National Association for International Relations – are based in the University.  There are also the research centers like UN Studies Center, European Studies Center, and Asia-Pacific Studies Center on campus.
 
Location and Circumstances
Located in the downtown area between western 2nd ring road and 3rd ring road of Beijing, CFAU is 7 kilometers away from Tiananmen. Neighboring CFAU, there are Beijing Exhibition Center, Meilanfang Theater, Capital Stadium, National Library and other cultural sites. The campus enjoys a serene and pleasant environment for study and living.
CFAU has an electrified education center, facilities for simultaneous interpretation, international trade simulating laboratories, audio-visual rooms, satellite receiving and transmitting system, campus LAN and other modern teaching and researching facilities. The university library is computerized and well stocked. In addition, CFAU has four dining halls including a muslin restaurant. And the clinic can provide daily medical service.
CFAU also has various student organizations, such as Youth Volunteer Society, Legal Aid Center, Securities Research Association, Basketball Society, Public Speaking Society, etc. There are rich and colorful student activities, among which Model UN, Diplomatic Etiquette Competition, and Campus Singer Contest are the most popular ones among the students, and are rather influential home and abroad as well.
 
Scholarships
CFAU can accept Chinese Government Scholarship students and offer Beijing Government Scholarship for international students.

    Non-degree programs operate on a two-term basis. The Autumn term begins in September and ends in January the ensuing year, and the Spring term begins in March and ends in July.
Students enrolling in the Chinese Language program shall be placed in elementary, intermediate or advanced level classes according to their proficiencies in the Chinese language. Classes will be held in the morning from Monday to Friday, 20 hours in total per week. Optional lectures on Chinese history, literature, politics, calligraphy as well as Taijiquan (Chinese shadow boxing) are offered in the afternoon.
Visiting students enrolling for other majors shall take 8-20 hours of the related courses, as listed by the International Student Section (ISS). They can sit in the classes conducted for Chinese students and the examinations are optional for them.
Students will be awarded with certificates of study upon completion of the program.
Arrangements will also be made for the international students to visit museums and places of historical interest within the city as well as to watch performances in order to improve their proficiency in Chinese in different situations.
iiApplication and Enrollment
Application deadline: June 20th (Autumn-term program), December 20th­ (Spring-term program).
Applicants can download the required forms from www.cfau.edu.cn or acquire one at ISS. The completed forms (completed in English or Chinese) should be submitted by the application deadline of the program to the ISS together with the required documents and application fee.
Documents required for application:
1. Application Form for Admission at China Foreign Affairs University
2. Copy of the applicant’s passport
3.  A Letter from Guarantor signed by the Guarantor. The guarantor of the student could be an individual adult with domicile and permanent employment in China, or a lawful institution in China. (Notes: For the applicants under 18, parents must sign “The Power of Attorney”, which is available at the local Chinese embassy, and appoint a relative or friend in Beijing as guardian.)
4. Copy of the applicant’s emergency contact’s passport (or ID card)
5. Academic Diploma: Copy of the applicant’s latest relevant certificates of education and academic records
6. 4 passport photographs (bareheaded and full-faced)
7. Applicants who have been studying in other universities in China should provide two more documents:  (1) A sealed transfer permission letter from the Foreign Students' Office of the former university. (2) A copy of the applicant’s visa or residence permit in China.

II. Degree Programs
B.A. Program (4 years)
Fields of Specialization: Diplomacy, English language, Japanese language, French language, International Economy and Trade, Finance, International Law, Theories and Practice of Translation and Interpretation.
The applicants must possess senior high school diplomas; pass the Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK test) of level 6 or above (Before 2009), or level 5 or above of the new test after 2009. They must also pass examinations conducted by the applied teaching department of CFAU.
M.A. Program---taught in Chinese (3 years)
Fields of Specialization: International Law, International Relations, International Politics, Diplomacy, English Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (English, French, Japanese), World Economy.
The applicants must possess undergraduate degrees in the relevant fields; pass the HSK test of level 7 or above (before 2009), or level 5 or above of the new test after 2009. They must also pass examinations conducted by the relevant teaching department of CFAU.
M.A. Program---taught in English (2 years)
Fields of Specialization: International Relations
The applicants must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field. The University requires all non-native speakers of English to be excellent in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing of English. The applicants must also pass examinations conducted by the relevant teaching department of CFAU.
PHD. Program (4 years)
Fields of Specialization: International Relations, Diplomacy
The applicants must possess the post-graduate degrees in the relevant fields, pass the HSK test of level 7 or above(before 2009), or level 5 or above of the new test after 2009. They must also pass examinations conducted by the relevant teaching department of CFAU.

CFAU operates on a two-term basis. The Autumn term begins in September and ends in January the ensuing year, and the Spring term begins in March and ends in July. Only for the autumn term does the University enroll students. Diplomas shall be awarded to those students who have passed all examinations at the conclusion of their study programs.

Entrance examination will be held in late May or early June.

M.A. Program taught in English: English language and specialized subjects (Interview)
ivExpenses
   1. Application and Registration fee: RMB600 , which shall be paid at the time of submitting the application.
 2. Tuition:
B.A Program: RMB¥ 24,000/year
 M.A. Program taught in Chinese: RMB¥ 25,000/year
 M.A. Program taught in English: RMB¥ 30,000/year
PHD. Program: RMB¥ 32,000/year
Tuition shall be paid at the beginning of every academic year (in September).
Note:
1. All the applicants should be under the age of 45 and in good condition of health.
2. No refund for the application and registration fee. Students who wish to transfer to another institution or drop out shall be entitled to a refund of the tuition fee according to the following standards:
    80% if he/she does so within 2 weeks or less than 2 weeks of study;
    60% within 2 to 4 weeks of study,
    No refund for such requests more than 4 weeks of study.
 
Accommodation
Situated on the campus of CFAU, the International Exchange Center (IEC) is an appropriate lodging solution for international students. The center offers central heating and 24 hours hot water supply. Every room is equipped with air conditioning and cable TV hookups (access to international channels such as CNN). Every floor has a public kitchen where the international students can cook.
As dormitory for international students, IEC charges:
Two-bed Room:¥80 RMB yuan per bed per day.
Three-bed Room:¥50 RMB yuan per bed per day.
    Fees for dormitory should be paid at the time of check-in at IEC, and the fees of the last month should be settled by days at the time of check-out.
    Students who live off the campus should make the residence registration at the local police office within 24 hours after arrival.
