Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT) is the first Ordinary Universities in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, which proudly has Dr. Chenning Yang, a Nobel Laureate in Physics, as the Honorary President. As the birthplace of modern Chinese history，Dongguan is at the forefront when china's reform and opening-up policies were launched. It has been the 12th of “China’s Top 100 cities in comprehensive strength” and the first in Prefecture-level city for many years by its economic strength. What’s more, it is listed among “China's most charming city”, “China’s most economically energetic city”, “International Garden City”, “National Basketball City”, and successive to “National Civilized City” from 2011.

As the first full-time regular university in Dongguan, Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT) was initially bred in 1990 and coming into birth in April, 1992. Under the authorization of the Ministry of Education, DGUT embraced her first undergraduates in March, 2002 and awarded her first bachelor degrees four years later in May, 2006. Meanwhile, it was approved as the newly conferred Master-degree units in Guangdong’s project in August, 2010.Also, DGUT was approved as the “Guangdong International Science and Technology Cooperation Base” in 2012.

There are two campuses nowadays: Guancheng Campus (Downtown) and Songshan Lake Campus. Songshan Lake campus is situated in the national High-tech Park of Songshan Lake, where technological equipment and landscape are awesome, and has a total area of 1,500 acres. It is a garden-style and modern campus, with advanced facilities, adequate teaching laboratory equipment, and perfect public service system near at hand. Guancheng campus covers 360 acres, with convenient transport and beautiful surroundings of lakes and mountains, bluish greenery and luxuriant flowers. DGUT has constructed 10 Experiment & Teaching Centers, especially 4 Provincial Demonstrative Centers: the Experiment & Teaching Center of Electrician and Electronics, the Experiment & Teaching Center of Computer Science and Technology, the Engineering Practice & Teaching Center of Mechanical Design & Manufacture and Automation, and the Experiment & Teaching Center of Chemistry. The library covers 27,000 square meters, which owns more than 1,225,000 copies of books, more than 5000 kinds of journals and 20000GB digital resources. Campus network was built with Gigabit-bandwidth Backbone speed and Megabit-bandwidth desktop speed, setting up24, 710 information points. The stadium, as the national track and field team base, covers about 14 square meters, in which the Seventh Guangdong University Games was successfully organized in 2006.

DGUT establishes academic discipline system which focuses on engineering and management science, coordinating with literature, science, economics, law, education and other disciplines. Furthermore, it has 15 institutes (departments/centers) and 35 undergraduate majors, with many excellent teachers. Among 1097 teachers, full-time teachers play an active role, of which over 75percent are young and middle-age teachers who possess PhD or Master degree or have studied abroad, and 42 percent have a senior title or higher. Besides, Jianzhong Xu, Chinese Academy of Sciences academician, is hired as a double appointment academician, while Shing-Tung Yau, Ruixian Cai and other famous experts from home and abroad are hired as honorary professors, visiting professors and part-time professors.

DGUT has always taken teaching as the core of all activities, teaching quality as the lifeline, to be engaged in cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents. Also, it deepens the teaching reform, takes advantages of the advanced manufacturing city, strengthens school-enterprise cooperation, highlights practical teaching, and activates student’s innovative spirit and practical ability. DGUT builds up 181 outside-campus Practice Bases and 22 Employment and Entrepreneurship Training Bases which employ more than 230 intern advisors. The school actively carries out the “Innovative Talent Training Program”, and guides students to engage in scientific and technological innovation, which has achieved much in research findings.

The construction of school discipline is highly valued, so six majors, namely, Electronic Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Chinese Language and Literature, Business Management are designated as first-degree key disciplines, especially Electronic Science and Technology, and Chemical Engineering and Technology are authorized as the disciplines of the newly conferred Master-degree units in Guangdong’s project. The three second-degree subjects, namely, Chemical Engineering, Circuits and Systems, Computer Application Technology are approved as characteristic key disciplines of Guangdong Province. DGUT has signed an agreement with Institute of High Energy on strategic cooperation framework and joint laboratory construction, relied on major national scientific and technological infrastructure Spallation Neutron Source project for further cooperation in scientific research, personnel training and so on. The project fund has reached over 72,000,000RMB in the first round of the construction period.

DGUT continues to strengthen the research and strives to serve the local economic and social development, in order to use the scientific research to promote the level of teaching. It actively participates in the “Dongguan Science and Technology" projects, cooperates with other research institutes, companies or foreign institute to build up a bunch of important scientific platforms such as cleaner production technology center in Dongguan City, China and Germany Precision Manufacturing Technology Center, Dongguan Distributed Energy Research Center. DGUT actively engages itself in “Spallation Neutron Source” joint Project of the CAS and the municipal government. There are one Key Laboratory, one Guangdong Province Engineering Research Center, two Guangdong Province college engineering technology development centers, four university research platform constructions funded by the central government, one teaching experiment platform, and nine municipal key laboratories. Since 2002, the school has been in charge of nearly 1000 projects, such as the National “973”Project, “863”Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Fund, Provincial Major Science and Technology Projects, GD-HK-Macao Key-area Breakthrough Project. The project fund amounts to 220 million RMB, while research fund totals 350 million RMB. The teacher also received Award of Science and Technology and a number of patent awards, such as the Geneva International Patent Technology Fair Gold Medal, the National Invention Patent Award, Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and Dongguan Science and Technology Progress Award.

DGUT strives to strengthen communication and cooperation at home and abroad

and vigorously carry out foreign cooperation in running schools. It joins eco-industrial park project with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Perugia in Italy, Sweden Mailandelong university, while establishes friendly cooperative relationship with universities in Canada, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan. Besides, DGUT actively organizes joint postgraduate training base in Dongguan with South China University of Technology and Jinan University to select teachers of our school as graduate student’s tutors.
