In the year 1420, the Ming Yongle Emperor Zhu Di moved the capital to Beijing. At that time, the gate to the Imperial City was named Chengtianmen, in front of which there were two gates on its left and right sides, called the Left Chang’anmen and Right Chang’anmen respectively. The long street between the two gates was the earliest Chang’an Jie.
