Recommended reason

College of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) was founded in 1996, when the research in metallurgy, ceramics, polymers and composites was merged as a whole. The Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, the predecessor of CMSE, had been a leader in polymer education and pioneering polymer research in China, and as a result, BUCT was designated to house one of the key disciplines of materials and one of the state funded research centers of carbon fibers. There are 150 faculty and staff members including 31 professors and 42 associate professors in the school. This year 1100 undergraduates and 230 graduate students are enrolled. The school offers Ph.D. and Master's degrees in Materials Science & Engineering, Materials Processing, Materials Physics and Chemistry, Macromolecular Science and Applied Chemistry. The school also has a Testing Center funded by the United Nations.
