The Council of Russian University Graduates Union was held

The Council of Russian University Graduates Union was held in UIBE in the morning of September 18, 2013, celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA).

Liu Limin, Vice President of the Council of Russian University Graduates Union and the Deputy Minister of Education gave a speech while attending the meeting. He pointed out that China and Russia have made significant progress in educational exchanges and cooperation. Cultural exchanges, political mutual trust and economical and trade cooperation constitute the three pillars of the China-Russian relationship. Since 2000, China and Russia have established the mechanism for cultural exchange at the vice prime minister level. China and Russia carry out co-training of talented personnel, encourage the youth to learn language from each other, support the building of a platform for inter-school cooperation and constantly increase the number of teenagers to participate in exchange programs. Bilateral personnel and academic exchanges are promoted through overseas study, which provides continuous human resource support for China-Russia practical cooperation.

As the president of the host university, Shi Jianjun made an address. He stated that UIBE is working with several other Chinese and Russian universities specializing in economics to build a league of economy-specialized universities. It has established inter-school cooperation with many famous universities in Russia, such as the Russian State University for Humanities, the Moscow Institute of International Relations, the Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance and the People's Friendship University of Russia. It sends Chinese students to Russian universities for exchange study each year. The building of the league of China-Russia economy-specialized universities will provide a platform for universities to work together and deepen cooperation in areas like scientific research collaboration, exchange of teachers and the training of talents.

Dobrovoliskii, the General-Secretary of the Russian University Graduates Union told the reporter that Chinese overseas students makes up the largest portion of all foreign students in Russia now. At the continuous development of the Chinese economy and enhancement of China’s international position, more and more young people in Russia show great interest in learning Chinese.

The Russian University Graduates Union was set up in 2001. It grew out of the International Union of Students of the Soviet Union.
