Sino-American Cultural Exchange Scholarship 2013

1. Introduction

This programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China, in response to President Barack Obama's proposal of sending 100,000 American students to study in China . The programme plans to finance a total of 10,000 American students, either for degree studies or just for non-degree credits.
The degree-study scholarship provides full funds for full-time American master's or doctoral candidates admitted by the designated Chinese universities. The scholarship for non-degree credits is intended for those whose own American universities will recognize the credits they will have obtained during a minimum of three-month study at the designated Chinese universities. The latter part of the programme is to encourage the establishment of exchange programmes, or expansion of existing ones, between the designated Chinese universities and their American counterparts.

2. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be American citizens in good health;
2. Education background and age limit:
   Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.
   Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40.

3. Application for the degree-study scholarship

• English-medium doctoral programmes
  

  All the programs can be taught in English medium. Please consult the tutors if they accept the applicants in English medium.

  Applicants applying for the programme of their native language or the third country's native languages like English or French are not eligible for this scholarship programme.

  ⑵ Duration of scholarship

  Applicants for Chinese-medium programmes are required to take one year Chinese language course prior to the academic study if their Chinese is not qualified. Only by passing the required HSK test after the Chinese language course could they start their major studies.

  (4) Degree-study scholarship details
  

  1. Exemption from tuition fee, laboratory experiment fee, internship fee, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation on campus;
  2. Living allowance: RMB 1,700/month/person for master's students; RMB 2,000 /month /person for doctoral students;
  3. One-off settlement subsidy: RMB 1, 500/person after registration;
  4. Out-patient medical services together with comprehensive medical insurance;
  5. International travel expenses: self-afforded.

  ⑹ Application procedures
  

  Applicants are eligible for scholarship assessment only after they are admitted to the master's or doctoral programme of Wuhan University. ( The prospectus for master's programmes / doctoral programmes 2013 is available at www.whufses.com/en )
  Applicants shall make online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn (Agency No. of Wuhan University at CSC: 10486) and download and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and then sign the form.

  Submission of application documents:

  (7). Selection and notification
  

  Applicants will be given priority consideration if they graduate from world-renowned universities, or are recommended by senior professors or experts. A panel of experts at WHU will screen candidates for the scholarship and submit a list of nominees to university authorities for approval. Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants' application documents, academic performance, overall merits, research achievements and supervisors' comments. The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council for final approval.
  Scholarship awardees will be notified via email and their Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) will be sent out in the end of June.

4. Application for the scholarship for non-degree credits

The scholarship for non-degree credits in Wuhan University is mainly open to candidates from its sister universities in the U.S. The International Office of Wuhan University is in charge of its operation.
