The discipline of Theoretical Economics is one of the subjects with the longest history in our university. The subject comprises Political Economics, Economic History, History of Economic Ideology, Western Economics, Economics of Population Resources and Environment, Regional Economics and National Economy Management. The past 50 years saw many renowned domestic scholars teaching courses of the discipline: Ma Zhemin, Zhu Jiannong, Wu Chenghua, Zhang Jitao, Hou Houji, Zhao Dexin, Xia Xingyuan, Zhao Lingyun, Lu Xianxiang, and Liu Sihua.
With the strenuous efforts of several generations of the scholars, the discipline of Theoretical Economics is on the front rank of the universities of the same discipline, and enjoys great prestige in the international academic world. Also on the front rank of the country are the study of China’s Underground Economic Issue, Economic History of the People’s Republic of China, Economics of New System and Transformed Economy, and Sustainable Development Economics. During the recent 5 years, several scientific projects sponsored by state natural science funds and state social science funds have been conducted. The overall objective of the construction of Theoretical Economics is to build the discipline into first-rate base in our country with special features and superiority as the basis so that it can be the key base of scientific research and teaching for the cultivation of high-ranking talents of economic theories.
