Referring to the classification of the Chinese government scholarships, Lanzhou Jiaotong University scholarships are divided into the Undergraduates Students scholarship, the Master's Degree students scholarship, the Doctoral Students scholarship, the Chinese Language Students scholarship, and the Visiting scholars and Senior Visiting Scholars scholarship；According to the classifications of students, the details are as following:
1. Undergraduates scholarship
The Undergraduates scholarship is granted to those who apply to study in LanzhouJiaotongUniversity for bachelor degree, usually with a term of four school years. The applicants should be equal to graduates of Chinese high schools with excellent academic records, have to pass the entrance exam for Chinese universities or are admitted through recommendations, and are up to 25 years old.
2. Master’s Degree students’ scholarship
The Master's Degree students’ scholarship is granted to those who apply to study in LanzhouJiaotongUniversity for master's degree, with a term of two to three school years. The applicants should have bachelor's degree with excellent academic records. And oversea applicants should have letters of recommendations by two professors or two associate professors, while applicants in China should be those who have already been admitted by LanzhouJiaotongUniversity and are up to 35 years old.
3. PH.D Students Scholarship
PH.D Students scholarship is granted to those who apply to study in LanzhouJiaotongUniversity for doctor's degree, with a term of three school years. The applicants should have master's degree with excellent academic records. And oversea applicants should have letters of recommendations by two professors or two associate professors, while applicants in China should be those who have already been admitted by Chinese universities and are up to 40 years old.
4. the Chinese Language Students scholarship
The Chinese Language Students scholarship is granted to graduates of non-Chinese majors, those without basic Chinese knowledge, and applicants who want to study Chinese in LanzhouJiaotongUniversity with a term of one or two school years. The applicants should be equal to or above graduates of Chinese high schools, and are up to 35 years old.
5.Visiting Scholars Scholarship
The Visiting scholars scholarship is granted to those who apply to study their former majors in China, with a term of one or two school years. The applicants should be sophomores and above, or equal to college graduates, and are up to 45 years old.
6. Senior Visiting Scholars Scholarship
The senior visiting scholars’ scholarship is granted to those who apply to do further studies in China on a certain special subject under the guidance of Chinese tutors, with a term of one or two school years. The applicants should be equal to or above Chinese postgraduates, recommended by two professors or two associate professors, and are up to 50 years old.
Applicants for the above Lanzhou Jiaotong University Scholarships should, in principle, have corresponding proficiency in Chinese (except learners for the Chinese language and those who are taught in foreign languages); Those whose Chinese proficiency doesn't meet the requirements are asked to continue their Chinese learning, but for no more than two school years; the terms of scholarships for postgraduate, Master Degree and PhD students who need further Chinese learning can be extended accordingly, but the time taken by trainees on further Chinese learning is included in the required time limit of scholarships.
I. Contents of the LanzhouJiaotongUniversity scholarships
1. Full scholarships
Free from registration fees, tuition, experiment fees, fieldwork fees, and basic teaching materials and lodging fees; Living expenses in the scholarship and one-off settlement allowance 3000 Yuan.
2. Partial scholarships
(1) For undergraduates, Chinese language students, and visiting scholars.
(2) For Master's Degree students, PhD students, and senior visiting scholars.
II. Recipients of above scholarships
Recipients of above scholarships include regular undergraduate, Master Degree or PhD students, learners of Chinese language, and Visiting scholars and senior visiting scholars with a term of over one year’s study.
III. The Classification of Scholarships
· For undergraduates and Visiting Scholars:
First class scholarship: 5000 RMB
Second class scholarship: 3000 RMB
· For Master's Degree students, PhD students, and senior visiting scholars:
First class scholarship: 7000 RMB
Second class scholarship: 5000 RMB
IV. Qualification and Competencies:
· Abide by Chinese law and regulation together with all regulations of LanzhouJiaotongUniversity.
· Be friendly, and can respect the public morality and social customs in China.
· Be respectful to teachers and can help each other.
· Be diligent and perform well in study with no makeup.
· Be active in activities of all kinds organized by oversea students office.
· Those graduates, Master’s Degree and PhD students whose average scores should be over 90 points (90 points included) and should rank for 10 percent of overseas students can apply for the Full Scholarships.
· Those graduates, Master’s Degree and PhD students whose average scores should be over 85 points (85 points included) and should rank for 20 percent of overseas students can apply for the first class scholarships.
· Those graduates, Master’s Degree and Ph.D students whose average scores should be over 80 points (80 points included) and should rank for 30 percent of overseas students can apply for the second class scholarships.
V. Selection method
The candidates should be elected by their institutions. Then, the international cooperation and exchange office will work with the postgraduate administration office, the academic administration office, the applicants’ institution and their teachers to make a comprehensive selection and post the result in public. If there is no doubt about the candidates, the selection results will be submitted to the leading group to examine and approve.
VI. Time for selection and awarding
In every school year, students submit their own application for scholarships, and institution select the candidates in late September. The selection will be in the middle of October, and awarding ceremony will be held in November.
VII. If the recipients of above scholarships break any Chinese law or related regulations of LanzhouJiaotongUniversity, the university will cancel their right to apply for the next year’s scholarship.
