Hunshandake Sandy Land locates in the central part of Inner Mongolia china. It is one of ten largest sandy lands in china and has exited for more than 220,000 thousand years. It is the nearest sandy land to Beijing City. Occupying an area of 52,000 square kilometers, with an average elevation of 1,100 meters, it is a famous desert in China.
Hunshandake sandy land is well-known for its lakes. There are a great many small lakes, springs and ponds scattered in this area. The water runs from the sand and gets into rivers which finally flow into Gaogesitai River.

The meaning of Hunshandake in mogolia language is the name of Genghis khan's dear horse. It is said that when he led his army to conquer the Jin Nation, they went across this area.
