City overview
Being world famous for the Old Town of Lijiang in it, Lijiang city is located at the northwest of Yunnan Province, upper-middle reaches of Jinsha River, in the transitional area from Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the large delta-shaped region among Yunnan, Sichuan, and Tibet, with a total area of 20,600 square meters.
 
General Information
Lijiang City has jurisdiction over ancient city, Jade Dragon Naxi Nationality Autonomous County, Yongsheng County, Huaping County, and Ninglang Yi Nationality Autonomous County with total population of over 1,100,000 and 22 minority nationalities which takes up 57.3% of the total population. In history, Lijiang City is the political, economic and cultural center of northwest of Yunnan Province and also the important center of material collecting and distributing of Southern Silk Road and Ancient Tea-Horse Road leading to Tibet, India, Nepal etc. in Han and Tang Dynasties.
 
The climate condition of Lijiang City is not very comfortable, for the temperatures in summer and winter is totally different. In summer, the temperatures will reach 25℃ and in wither the temperature will drop to 4℃.
 
History and Culture
Lijiang owns many titles of World Cultural Heritage, World Natural Heritage, Memory of the World, Key National Scenic Area, Chinese Famous Historic and Cultural City etc. with particular geographical position, long history and rich culture, honest and dense nationality amorous feedings. The culture, tourism, biology, and hydropower resources are the main resource with the advantage and development potential most in this city.
 
Transportation and Communication
Lijiang Airport is located in the south of Lijiang City, 28 km away from downtown. There is an airport shuttle bus service in downtown Lijiang. The airport was opened in July 1995 and has flights to Kunming, Xishuangbanna, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Guiyang. It also offers chartered airplane service. There are flights from Kunming to Lijiang every day and is about 30 minute’s flight time.
