The Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) was established in 1994 and its predecessor was the Training Department of the United Nations’ Interpreters that was founded in 1979. Now the GSTI has set up graduate programs such as simultaneous interpretation between English and Chinese, and multilingual simultaneous interpretations (French/German/Russian plus English and Chinese).
 
Meanwhile, the GSTI also enrolls doctoral students in the research fields like Translation Studies and Linguistics. At present, there are over 140 graduate and foreign students studying at the GSTI. Most of the foreign graduate students come from Canada, France, Russian, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas. The faculty team is made up of 18 full-time professors, associate professors and instructors, as well as 3 part-time professors inside BFSU and 2 visiting professors outside BFSU. The teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:10.
