The School was established in September 2006, which has been based on the Law Department founded when the new millennium came. It is proud to announce that Professor Haocai HUO, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is its honorary dean.
The School is quite young among 400 law schools around China, but it’s really unique on the land. There are many aspects that make the School become unique.
Motivated by an urgent need in China for the international lawyers, it has been offering undergraduates’ legal curriculum, together with courses on English language and literature studies. Besides the core legal courses required by the Ministry of Education in China, some of which are taught both in English and Chinese, it also provides some courses fully in English that are compulsory in the law schools of the United States.
The Class of 2001 recruited the first law students in September of that year for undergraduate studies, and currently has a student body of 188. In four years, the School of Law has become a full-scale law school and gradually built a reputation for training multi-purpose legal professionals.
The School offers undergraduate courses, together with courses on English language and literature studies toward a B.A. degree. The School starts to offer
graduate degrees on international legal studies which will be open to prospective applicants nationwide. The graduate studies will be carried on by joint effort with international legal educational entities.
It has kept good relations with many law firms, including some foreign-based law firms, as well as the legal educational institutions at home and abroad, such as Peking University, Georgetown University, Cornell University, Queensland University, and etc. From 2007 it was going to enroll postgraduates, some of whom will be sent to Hawaii University, DePaul University, and Cornell University in the second year of their study, where they will obtain another LL.M. besides the one from BFSU.
