Known as the earliest department to enroll undergraduate students, the College of Chinese Language & Literature was formally founded in 1960. It was renamed as the present college growing out of the Department of Chinese Language & Literature, Department of Nationality Language Culture, Department of Chinese as a Foreign Language, and Philology Teaching Section.
Currently, the College embraces 4 bachelor-level programs, including Chinese Language & Literature, Chinese as a Foreign Language, Editing and Publishing, Zhu Nationality Language & Literature. There are running 8 master-level programs, namely Chinese Nationality Language & Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Chinese Language Philology, Liberal Arts, Aesthetics, Chinese Ancient Literature, Chinese Modern & Contemporary Literature, Comparative Literature and World Literature. Beside, it is home to 4 institutes which play an important role in scientific research in the college.
The College has a capacity of 81 teaching and administrative staff, including 73 full-time teachers. Among the teaching staff, there are 32 full professors, 25 associate professors, 49 master supervisors with 26 Doctoral degrees and 2 special allowance of the State Council. Nearly 10 teachers have an experience of studying abroad and taken part in the post-doctoral research.
The College has a complete discipline system and is able to offer programs from all levels. At present, the College boasts a total number of 2230 postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and international students. Besides, it enables to cover classes for local graduates, undergraduates as well as college specific study students. The number of the students has researched more than 1700.
With 50 years of effort and development, a considerable number of professors, experts, scholars, leaderships have been trained here who have made great contributions to the literature world. Many efforts have been made to develop itself into an advanced teaching-research characteristic of nationality features and local features.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree:
Be 16-65 years old, senior high school graduate, HSK3~6 certificate, in good physical condition.
For Master’s degree:
Have Bachelor’s degree or above, HSK3~6 certificate, academic score list, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, in good physical condition.
For Doctoral degree:
Have Master’s degree or above, HSK3~6 certificate, academic score list, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, in good physical condition.
