The College of Liberal Arts was one of the earliest founded colleges in Guangxi Normal University. It originates from the Chinese language section of Guangxi Normal College which was founded in 1932. In 1936, this section was merged into Guangxi Normal University with Guangxi Normal University and became the department of Chinese language and literature. In 2006, department of Chinese language and literature was renamed as College of Liberal Arts.
Currently, College of Liberal Arts has over 1,300 full-time undergraduate students, nearly 600 master degree candidates and over 100 overseas students. It offers four undergraduate programs (Chinese language and literature, secretarial education, teach Chinese as a second language, editing and publishing), in which, Chinese language and literature is a national characteristic major and it is a high-quality major of the universities in Guangxi.
College of Liberal Arts began to recruit master degree candidates in 1979. So far, it has 12 master’s programs, such as classical Chinese literature, literature and arts, aesthetics, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, Chinese philology, linguistics and applied linguistics, comparative literature and world literature, Chinese classical documents, anthropology, etc. In addition, the classical Chinese literature major has the right to confer the doctoral degree. And it is now the only doctoral station of Chinese language in Guangxi.
At present, College of Liberal Arts has 10 teaching and administrative sections. The classical Chinese literature, literature and arts are two key disciplines of Guangxi. The history of classical Chinese literature and introduction to literary theory are two high-quality curriculums of Guangxi. The research institutes of Chinese language and literature, Chinese poetics, Chuang science and tourism under the management of the university are all subordinate to the College of Liberal Arts. Besides, it has the research institutes under the management of itself, such as research institute of South China folk culture, research institute of dialects, etc. This college has also held two academic journals.
College of Liberal Arts has strong teaching force. Of the 97 teachers, 37 are professors, 36 are doctors and 66% of the teachers are doctors and associate doctors. Since 2000, the teachers of this college have won 2 state-level teaching achievement prizes, 15 national social science projects and 63 provincial and ministerial level projects. They have published 66 monographs and 1263 theses, of which, 206 were published in core journals.
College of Liberal Arts has teachers and staff’s reference room, graduate’s reference room, base reading room and students’ reading room. It has a collection of 110,000 volumes, 786 kinds of professional periodicals and 220,000 index cards of professional special collection.

Entry Requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years, and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and having graduated from high school, academic records, have an HSK test score of grade 3 or above.
For Master’s degree: Applicants must be under 40 of age and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and a Bachelor’s degree, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above.
For Doctoral degree:Applicants must be in good physical condition and under 45 of age in principle, holding a non-China passport and a Master’s degree, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, academic records.
