College of Liberal Arts, Hebei Normal University is one of the core colleges of Hebei Normal University. Its predecessor was the department of Chinese of Hebei Women Normal College which was founded by famous researcher of modern literature--- Li Helin in 1929. Till now, this college has a history of 80 years.
Currently, College of Liberal Arts offers three undergraduate programs--- Chinese language and literature, Chinese language, teach Chinese as a second language. The length of the study is 4 years. It also offers 2 doctoral programs--- Chinese philology, classical Chinese literature. Besides, it has the right to confer the master’s degree of Chinese language and literature, which is a first-class discipline. Among the above-mentioned programs, Chinese philology is a provincial level key discipline and classical Chinese literature is a university-level key discipline. In 1999, with the approval of the state council committee for academic degrees, College of Liberal Arts began to recruit the postgraduate students of education, teaching theory of Chinese.
There are now 98 teaching and administrative staffs at this college, among whom, 2 are distinguished professors, 19 are professors, 30 are associate professors, 33 are lecturers, 8 are doctoral tutors, 42 are master’s tutors and 34 teachers have doctoral degree. There are 1,903 undergraduate students, 282 graduate students and over 3,000 continuing students at this college.
In recent years, College of Liberal Arts has undertaken many projects financed by state social sciences fund or Hebei key social sciences fund. The research funding has been increasing rapidly. And the scientific research achievements have always kept the leading place. Besides, this college emphasizes the domestic and foreign academic exchange activities. It absorbs the advanced philosophy and experience of other universities and keeps developing itself.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years, and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and having graduated from high school, academic records, have an HSK test score of grade 3 or above.
For Master’s degree: Applicants must be under 40 of age and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and a Bachelor’s degree, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above.
For Doctoral degree:Applicants must be in good physical condition and under 45 of age in principle, holding a non-China passport and a Master’s degree, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, academic records.
