Henan University began to teach Chinese Language as second language in 1985. Now there are 13 full time teachers of Chinese language for international students, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 3 doctoral degree holders and 2 doctoral degree candidates. More than half of the faculty has the experience of teaching Chinese language abroad, and all faculty members are qualified with Chinese as Second Language Teaching Certificates. Besides, there are more than 20 part-time teachers.
All international students are arranged in multi-media classrooms to study Chinese Language. There are 5 audio-video classrooms and two computer classrooms prepared for international students.
Required courses: Comprehensive Chinese, Listening Comprehension, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Reading, Chinese Writing, Chinese Culture, Audio-video.
Elective courses (opened on students’ requests): Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Martial Art, Chinese Folk Music, Chinese History, Ancient Literature, Ancient Chinese Language, Chinese Character Study, Business Chinese, News Listening Comprehension, Audio-video and Discussion, and HSK Tutoring. Touring within Henan Province will be organized in weekends (students may participate voluntarily and will cover their own expenses.)
Henan University holds the National Examination for Chinese Language Standard (or HSK examinations) twice a year (in June and December respectively).
