Henan University of Science and Technology (HUST) is situated in the historically and culturally famous city of Luoyang- a modern industrial city. It was originally founded in 1952 and later named Luoyang Institute of Technology. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the former Luoyang Institute of Technology, Luoyang Medical School and Luoyang Agricultural School amalgamated in the year 2002 and became a university of science and technology, the HUST.
There are 22 schools and departments in HUST, covering 9 major disciplines of engineering, natural science, medical science, agronomy, economics, management, law, literature and history, which contain 62 undergraduate majors and 66 postgraduate programs. HUST has been granted by the Ministry of Education to jointly recruit and train doctoral candidates with other colleges and universities. At present, about 26,986 full-time students, of whom 22,825 are undergraduates and 992 postgraduates, study in the university.
HUST has a teaching of 1,732, of whom 667 are senior professionals, 788 masters and 333 doctors and over 200 seniors are state, provincial or ministerial experts, or experts who enjoy special governmental allowance. In addition, the university shares 7 academicians with other institutions and has 23 provincially-supported professors, well-known teachers and creative talents of provincial colleges and universities.
HUST contains 15 provincial key branches of learning, 12 branches with posts of provincially-supported professors, 7 provincial key labs and engineering centers and 4 labs for shared academicians. Some provincial and national academic associations or societies are attached to the university. HUST has also undertaken a large number of national scientific mega-projects, the national 863 program, the National 973 program and the National Natural Science Foundation Program and other research projects of state, provincial or ministerial level and gained a number of high-tech achievement of great prospect for industrialization and high-quality technology.
The university, with a construction area of 787 thousand square meters, covers an area of over 4,300 mu. Its library contains 3.35 million volumes of books. Its information facilities have been awarded EXCELLENCE PRIZE OF INFORMATION-BASED CONSTRUCTION OF CHINA’S EDUCATION. It has three affiliated hospitals, of which the First Affiliated Hospital is a first-class, state-level provincial comprehensive hospital and one of the 100 best hospitals in China as well.
HUST aims to construct itself into a nationally-advanced, provincially-best comprehensive university of teaching-research type with feasible disciplinary formation and excellent systems for training, research and social service as well as to be characteristic of outstanding engineering and of brilliant features of arts, science, medicine, agriculture.
