The history of the School of Social Development, Nanjing Normal University can be traced back to the year 1907. Having been though almost a century’s adjustment and development, the school was finally established formally.
The school has three departments, namely Department of History, Department of Sociology and Social Work and Department of Cultural Relics and Museology, and 10 scientific institutions, namely Research Institute of Economic History of China, Research Center of Nanjing Massacre, Research Institute of Historical Culture of Six Dynasties, Research Institute of archeology, Research Institute of Historical Heritage, Research Center of History & Social Basic Education, Research Institute of Sociology and other three ones. The bachelor’s programs include History Education, Sociology, Social Work, Cultural Relics and Museology. The master’s programs include Specialized History Studies; Ancient Chinese History; Modern and Contemporary Chinese History; Historical Document Studies; Historical Geography; World History; History courses & Teaching Theory; Archaeology and Museum Studies; Sociology; Social Security; Folklore. The school also owns the doctoral degree authority of History of Particular Subjects.
Currently the school has 62 faculty, among whom there are 43 fulltime teachers, 18 professors, 20 associate professors, 4 lecturers, 1 teaching assistant, 9 doctoral tutors and 30 master’s tutors, and 85 percent of them have master’s degree or doctoral degree. By June 2008, the school has had almost 700 undergraduates and 400 postgraduates. Since 1982, the school has trained more than 2000 professional talents for China.
For the past few years, the School of Social Development has made a great progress in education and scientific research. It is undoubted that there is bright prospect lying ahead of the school by its rapid development.

Bachelor applicants: Applicants must be 18 years or older and in good health. The applicants must provide a high school certificate, a high school transcript, and an HSK certificate in level four and above
Master applicants: Applicants must be 22 years or older and in good health. The applicants must provide a notarized certificate of their Bachelor's degree, a University transcript, and an HSK certificate in level six and above
Doctoral applicants: Applicants must be 22 years or older and in good health. The applicants must provide a notarized certificate of their Bachelor's degree, a University transcript, and a HSK certificate in level six and above
