As early as in 1923 the Northwest University had set up the School of Arts. And in 1994, to meet the national construction and social development of the personnel training requirements, the Department of Chinese School in the original basis, the integration of Chinese, news, art three professional, literary and artistic set up a College of Communication. In 2001, the school returned to its original name.
At present, the faculties who are on-the-job are 68 people, 52 people full-time teachers. Among them, 20 people are professors, associate professors of 15 people, lecturers and teaching assistants, 17; teachers with a doctorate are 27 people (6 people post-doctoral), at 3 people read doctors; master's degree are 14 people; the Ministry of Education Teaching Steering Committee member of 2 people, provincial teacher teaching one person, doctoral instructor Eight people, who enjoy special allowances of the State Council, 3 people, and have formed a team title, education, study fate and age-structured teachers.
The school has three specific research directions: Chinese Language and Literature, Teaching Chinese as a foreign language, drama, film and television literature three undergraduate professional, Chinese Language and Literature has a master's degree in disciplines authorized points (a total of eight two disciplines), and aesthetics, film study, religious study 3 Master II subjects, there are some ancient Chinese literature, Chinese Cultural History of Aesthetic doctor authorized two points. 2007 approved the establishment of Chinese language and literature post doctorate positions. Existing full-time undergraduates at 1124, post-graduate (Augmentum, Bo), more than 300, and assumed all the public courses, "Chinese University" teaching job.

Entry requirements
Applicants must hold equivalent degrees with good results, in good health and aged 18 or above. HSK-3 or above for undergraduate and HSK-6 for graduate, the students who apply graduate degree should be recommended by at least two vice-professors or above.
