The College of Fine Arts, evolving from the Art Department of SCNU which was established in 1987, has witnessed a triumphant reputation as one of the core bases and leading schools of art and design education in South China. Its success owns in large measure to the well-structured programs and courses, highly advanced and efficient facilities, as well as the team of collegiate staff including efficient office personnel and eminent teaching faculty consisted of 12 permanent professors, 8 associate professors, 11 senior lectures and 6 assistant professors whose specialties cover the fields of Chinese traditional painting, Oil painting, Modern art, Photography, Art education, Art history and Design.
Since 1995, the professors have published over 20 monographs, over 100 articles in authoritative magazines and 150 art works. More than 200 of their art works have exhibited widely at home and abroad, nearly third of which have been collected by museums. Their scholarly books and textbooks have won 4 National and 5 Provincial awards. Their works have won 8 national and 15 provincial awards.
Its component disciplines are specialized in Fine Arts, Artistic Design and Photography, and form a core of study essential to students wishing to acquire an approach to the aesthetic, historical, political, social, cultural, religious, and philosophical art concepts and processes which help to shape the development of human civilizations.
To accomplish the studies of BA and MFA, the college offers buildings with 4350 square meters, facilities including a multi-purpose galley, a media theatre, shining classrooms, a graphic design laboratory, a photography studio and many workshops for teaching of printmaking, traditional art, oil painting, lacquer painting, sculpture and so on. With access to newest information and technology to research, the college’s reference library has collected 40 thousand volumes of books and is providing over 100 latest journals published domestically and abroad.
The college has been cooperating and exchanging extensively with domestic and international universities, museums and relevant art units. The students, visiting artists and scholars from all over the world share a harmonious diversity of all kinds of cultural backgrounds.
