Chinese Literature College is one of the 16 colleges and departments in Shaanxi Norma University. It was founded in 1944 and the primary predecessor of the present college is Department of Chinese Language in Shaanxi Provincial Normal Academy. For 60 years, its staff has worked hard and striven for the development of the college generation after generation. Today, it has grown into an important teaching and research center of Chinese language and literature with solid foundation, large scale, strong force and latent capacity. In personnel cultivation, Chinese Literature College features a “6-emphasis” education, which places emphases on “basic education, academic standard; humanistic culture, learning criterion; social practice, and practical ability”.
In the college, there are 34 full professors among whom there are 21 doctoral supervisors and 27 associate professors. Among faculties there are 41 with degrees of Ph.D.
There are currently over 1,300 undergraduate students in the college, majoring in four specialties, namely Teaching of Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Secretary Education, Chinese Language and Literature, Teaching Chinese as a Second language. Among these, the specialty of Chinese Language and Literature is one of doctoral centers of first rank discipline and postdoctoral mobile programs as well as the national arts base of fundamental learning and personnel cultivation. Presently it has 8 doctoral programs and 11 master’s programs. The graduate students enrolled in the college amount to 700.
The college contains 7 research centers, which are those for Chinese Literature, Dictionary Compilation, Northwestern Dialects and Folk-custom, Basic Education of Chinese Teaching, Characters in Zhou, Qing, Han and Tang Dynasties, “Shi Ji” and Chen Zhongshi. The subjects of Chinese Ancient Literature, the Study of Literature and Art, Linguistics and Chinese Modern and Present Literature enjoy a sterling reputation in the Northwest even the whole country.

Entry requirements
Applicants must hold equivalent degrees with good results, in good health and aged 18 or above. HSK-6 or above for art students, the students who apply graduate degree should be recommended by at least two vice-professors or above.
