Department of Mechanical Engineering, Xiamen University of Technology was established in 1981. It was one of the four departments which were founded simultaneously with Xiamen University of Technology (XMUT). The department offers three bachelor's degree programs (Auto Engineering, Mechanical Manufacture and Automation, Material Forming and Control Engineering) and two associate degree programs (Auto Insurance Claim Assessment and Mechatronics). Currently, the department has a total enrollment of over 1,600 students. The initial assets value of the laboratories, covering an area of over 5,500 sq. m., is more than 20 million yuan. The Basic Mechanical Manufacturing Laboratory is a demonstration center of practice teaching in Fujian Province. Close relations have been established between the department and more than 20 enterprises, like Xiamen Kinglong Motor Group Co. Ltd. and Shanghai Guangda Precision Mould Co. Ltd.
The department has a full-time faculty of more than 50, with a reasonable configuration of age, academic credential and technical post. Among the faculty members 1 is excellent university teaching recognized by Fujian Educational Administration, 8 are professors, 20 are associate professors, while more than 30 have a master's or PhD degree.
The faculty members actively pursue diversified research interests. Many Xiamen municipal research centers such as Modern Auto Engineering Technology and Research Center，Automobile Engineering Research Center, Precision Engineering of Intelligent Manufacture Research Center were founded in the department, as well as the Auto Design and Analysis Research Institute, Carriage Security and Comfort Research Institute, Integrated Technology of Mould Manufacturing for Auto Key Components Research Institute. Auto Engineering is provincial key undergraduate courses upon approval by Fujian Educational Administration. Mechanical Design Manufacturing and its Automation is collegiate key undergraduate courses upon approval by XMUT. During the period of the Tenth Five-Year Plan, 34 research works of science and technology were undertaken, acquiring 19 scientific pay-off, among which 12 were provincial and ministerial level, obtaining more than 20 patents of invention or patents of utility model; 3 science and technology achievements were transferred, realizing the output value of more than 6 million yuan. The annual output value of the Mould Manufacturing Center is more than 2 million yuan.

Entry requirements
For Associate or Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years, and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and having graduated from high school, academic records, have an HSK test score of grade 3 or above.
