Founded in 1976, the School of Literature and Journalism is one of the earliest-established schools in Xiangtan University. Over 30 years of development, it has become a teaching and research unit with strong teacher resource and complete experimental instruments.
The School of Literature and Journalism has 3 departments (Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Advertising, Department of Journalism) and 4 research institutes (Research Institute of Comparative Literature and World Literature, Research Institute of Media Culture, Research Institute of Folk Literature, Research Institute of Ancient Books Collation) and 3 provincial key disciplines (Comparative Literature and World Literature, Classical Chinese Literature, Philology).
At present the school has 81 faculties, including 18 professors, 23 associate professors and 30 doctors. There are 1200 undergraduates and over 300 post-graduates. For 30 years since its establishment, the school has cultivated more than 4,000 talents specialized in Chinese Language and Literature and Journalism and Communication.
Over the past 10 years, the School of Literature and Journalism has published more than 100 academic works and teaching materials and 1,000 papers. It has undertaken almost 90 scientific research projects at above provincial lever including 9 national social scientific fund projects. The school has also won over 20 provincial research and teaching awards.

Doctor candidates: Less than 40; With Master's Degree and Having Passed the Entrance Exam for Doctor's Program, or Graduated from Xiangtan University with Good Records and Recommendations by Two Professors
