Higher Nursing education was initially offered in 1961 and restarted in 1990 when the Department of Nursing was established. Wang Xiuying, the first recipient of Nightingale’s Award for Chinese Nurses, served as the first Director. In 2002, with the expansions of the academic programs, School of Nursing was established.
The school currently enrolls about 250 full-time students each year, about 700 full-time students on campus, and a total of 10,000 alumni. The employment rate of the school’s graduates is about 98%. The school has 14 affiliated hospitals which provide plenty of clinical resources for students’ and faculties’ practice.
The main research areas of the School of Nursing include: critical and continuous care-cardiovascular and respiratory disease, mild cognitive impairment and dementia care, health education and behavioral modification for HIV and Hepatitis-B, psychological adjustment and psychological nursing care, quality control and performance management in nursing practice, and core competence of nurses and competence-based nursing education
The School of Nursing is eager to seek academic partners in academic and research collaboration. It has been building a very strong collaborative relationship with Deakin University School of Nursing in Australia for short term exchange of faculties and students, and for joint education in Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree. The school also established collaborative relationships with Northumbria University School of Nursing in United Kingdom, the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, and other schools in countries such as Canada, France etc.
