The School of Law of Sun Yat-sen University has a long-term history which can be traced back to the discipline of Law of Guangdong University established by Sun Yat-sen in 1924. After a series of reform and combination, it was finally established in 1931. It has made great achievements since its establishment.
At present, it owns a number of 68 faculty members. Among them there are 50 teachers including 15 full professors, 22 associate professors and 6 lecturers, and 14 officials. Most of the teachers have worked as the leaderships in the national and provincial academic institutes and centers of law. It in turn brings the School a high reputation and has great influence in the academic world. Meanwhile, they have undertaken many tasks of teaching, scientific research, legal affairs and local legislation in related departments.
The School attaches great importance to teaching and research. It aims to train all-round senior professionals with higher comprehensive qualities and basic theoretical accomplishment and knowledge of law, who know Chinese law well.
It covers 8 programs for Master’s degree including International Law, Legal History, Economic Law, Criminal Law, Legal Theory, Procedural Law, Constitution & Administrative Law, and Civil & Commercial Law. And the School is also the practicing base for Master of Law. It has cultivated a considerable number of legal talents who have contributed a lot to the construction of democracy and legal systems & institutions.
What’s more, the School plays an active role in academic exchange domestically and internationally. Many domestic and international well-known professors, judges, procurators and lawyers, the administrative officials are invited to lecture and visit in the school. It has a close relationship not only with domestic law departments and universities, but also with the United States, Britain, and European and so on.
Length of study
Undergraduate students: 4years
Postgraduate students: 2-3 years
Doctoral students: 3 years
Application time
The academic year starts in September and consists of two semesters. Generally the fall semester lasts from September 1 to the end of January and the spring semester from March 1 to mid July.
For Bachelor’s degree, the deadline for application is June 5.
For Master’s and Doctoral degree, the time for application is the same as Bachelor’s degree.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants for undergraduate programs should have finished senior high school and be at the age of 18 – 45 and healthy, HSK3 certificate or above.
For Master’s degree: Applicants for Master’s degrees should have finished undergraduate programs, with two recommendation letters from two associate professors or professors, and should be generally under the age of 45 and healthy, HSK3 certificate or above.
For Doctoral degree:Applicants for doctoral degrees should have finished their MA or MS courses and with two references from two associate professors or professors and should be generally under the age of 45 and healthy, and HSK3 certificate or above.
