The College of Plant Protection (the former plant protection department) was one of the main colleges founded at the beginning of Shenyang Agricultural University’s foundation in 1952. After over 50 years’ development, this college has been developed into an institution which has 3 master’s programs (plant pathology, agricultural entomology and pest control, agricultural pharmacology), 3 doctoral programs (plant pathology, agricultural entomology and pest control, agricultural pharmacology) and a mobile station for post-doctors studies (plant protection). The plant pathology discipline is the key discipline of Ministry of Agriculture and Liaoning Province. The laboratories of agricultural entomology and plant pathology are both provincial level qualified laboratories.
College of Plant Protection has two undergraduate programs --- plant protection and applied chemistry. It also has one junior college program --- animal and plant quarantine. This college consists of three departments (department of plant pathology, department of agricultural entomology and pest control, department pesticide science), one research institute of plant immunity, one key open laboratory of northern crop disease immunity, research institute of biological control examined and approved by the ministry of agriculture, research institute of plant protection and biological pesticide engineering center examined and approved by the university.
Currently, College of Plant Protection has 50 teaching and administrative staffs. Of the 28 teachers, 10 are full-time researchers, 9 are professors, 9 are associate professors, 7 are associate researchers and 2 are senior experimentalists. This college now has 10 doctoral tutors and 17 master’s tutors. There are one overseas student, 106 master students, 385 undergraduate and college student at this college.
Since 1993, College of Plant Protection has undertaken over 100 international, national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. The total research fund amounts to 8,300,000 yuan. Among all the projects, 27 have won the prizes of scientific research achievements and 4 have gained the patents. Besides, the teachers of this college have published 370 academic theses and over 50 monographs.
With respect to the international exchanges, this college has established academic exchanges and cooperative relations with 12 countries, i.e., America, Britain, Japan, France, Germany, Holland, Korea, Russia, Brazil, Ukraine, Canada and Mexico. 23 people have gone abroad to study for master’s and doctoral degrees or do the cooperative research. 52 people have attended the international conferences. Most of them have returned. And they are working hard for the national education of agriculture and the promotion of the national science and technology.

For international students, the academic year begins in September. The duration for application is from March 1st to June 30th.
