With the rapid development of modern printing and publishing,
BIGC has experienced remarkable changes. It started from the Department
of Printing in Culture Institute affiliated to the Ministry of Culture
in 1958and laid the foundation of China’s higher education in printing.
In 1961, Culture Institute was cancelled and its Department of Printing
was merged into Central Academy of Art and Design. The Department of
Printing shouldered the burden of printing talents development and
cultural inheritance of Chinese civilization and continued to grow up.
In 1978, BIGC was founded on the base of Central Academy of Art and
Design with the permission of the State Council,. Under the leadership
of China’s Press Administration, through constant expansion and
connotative promotion, it grew into an undergraduate college which
specialized in developing high-level professionals of printing and
publishing.
