School of Economics, Capital University of Economics and Business was founded in 1974. It is one of the best schools in CUEB with three departments: the Department of Economics, the Department of International Economics and Trade and the Department of National Economics. It runs six research institutions: CUEB Economic Research Institute, Research Center for WTO, China Research Center for Economic Growth and Business Cycle, China Research Center for Circulation, Research Center for Quantitative Economics and China Research Center for Brand. The school also has a laboratory for economic system analysis and simulation and a reference center.
 
By the end of April 2008, the school has 1200 undergraduates, over 300 postgraduates and 40 international undergraduate students. More than 20 international students are applying for master and doctor degree in the school. The school has already delivered more than 6000 graduates to the job markets, and they have made great achievements in their work units.
 
Being approved by the Ministry of Education, the School of Economics provides three bachelor’s programs, namely Economics, International Economics and Trade, and Commercial Economics; seven master’s programs, including Political Economy, Macro and Microeconomics, Quantitative Economics, International Trade, Industrial Economics (Commercial Economics), National Economics and National Defense Economics; five PhD programs in Quantitative Economics, International Trade, Industrial Economics, National Economics and National Defense Economics. Meanwhile, the Applied Economics has been authorized as a post-doctor mobile station.
 
At present, the School of Economics has fifty-three professors and associate professors, and about ten assistant professors. While engaging in teaching and research, some faculty members also hold some positions in various government agencies, such as a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, an adviser of the Beijing Municipal Government, adviser of the Ministries and committees of the Central Government, and counselor of the Beijing Municipal Government. Most of the faculty members are directors, or executive directors, of various academic associations. In addition, quite a few well-known economists and scholars have been awarded honorary professorships by the school. Professor Michael Woodford from Columbia University in New York City, the 2005 Nobel Laureate, Professor Robert J. Aumann, and the 1999 Nobel Laureate, Professor Robert A. Mundell are honorary professors of the school. The school is also proud of its part time professors: Mr. Long Yongtu, the former Mofcom Minister, and renowned negotiation expert of international trade, and several other scholars.
 
The faculty members in the School of Economics form a powerful scientific research team. Over the past years, they have conducted several dozens of research projects sponsored by the Social Science Foundation, Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Education, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, other ministries of State Council, and tens of projects from various enterprises. In recent years, its faculty members have published over 50 monographs and textbooks, and several hundreds of papers were published by some of the well-known journals. Quite a few research projects won various awards for their achievements from the Ministry of Education, Beijing Municipal Government and other ministries. These projects contribute much, both in theory and practice for the reform and construction in China and Beijing.
 
School of Economics is open to the outside world and takes an active part in the international exchange and cooperation with its sister schools in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Argentina and other countries.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years, and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and having graduated from high school, academic records, have an HSK test score of grade 3 or above.
 
For Master’s degree: Applicants must be under 40 of age and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and a Bachelor’s degree, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above.
 
For Doctoral degree:Applicants must be in good physical condition and under 45 of age in principle, holding a non-China passport and a Master’s degree, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, academic records.
