Dalian Maritime University has a long history of navigation teaching which can be traced back to the very beginning of Chinese higher education in navigation in 1909 when the Nanyang Institute in Shanghai established a Shipping Management Section. The Navigation College of DMU was established in 1992. After years’ development, it has developed itself into a comprehensive school covering undergraduate program, master programs and doctoral programs.
At present, it offers Navigation Technology for Bachelor’s degree, Traffic Information Engineering & Control, Navigation Science and Technology, Nautical Transportation Engineering for Master programs and Doctoral programs. In 2002, Traffic Information Engineering & Control was approved as the national key discipline. Since its establishment, the College has cultivated a total number of more than 10,000 senior navigation talents who have made great contribution to the country with their wisdom and hard work.
As far as the survey, there are over ten students graduated from the university have become the key leader of the Ministry of Communications, Marine Board of the Ministry, and other national marine departments. Currently, among the Hongkong and Macao enterprises and public institutes, over 70% of the CEO and managers are trained by DMU. The students of DMU keep China navigation remaining dominant. It is really the cradle of training navigators.
Due to its unique contribution to the world’s maritime knowledge, the College has attracted much attention from abroad. Having established numerous international projects, it is now a leading, internationally recognized maritime institution. It has a long-term relationship with many international organizations and institutes, including IAMU, IMO, AMETIAP, NYK, APEC, IMLA, IACS, ILP, ISF, and MAERSK and so on.

Undergraduate students: 4years
Postgraduate students: 2-3years
Doctoral students: 3-4 years
Application time
For international students, the academic year begins in September. The time for application is before middle July.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree:
Healthy，valid passport, possessing a graduation from an institution equivalent to a Chinese senior high school, HSK4 certificate or above.
For Master’s degree:
Healthy, valid passport, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree within 40 years old, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, HSK6 certificate or above.
For Doctoral degree:
Healthy: valid passport; possessing a master diploma, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, HSK6 certificate or above.
