The history of the College of Chinese Language and Literature can be traced back to 1907. It was one of the earliest-established disciplines of Chinese language and literature nationwide. After the foundation of the nation, Fujian South China Woman Liberal Arts College, Fujian Xihe University and other two schools merged into the Fujian Normal University. It reserved and developed the Chinese Language department. In 1972, it was renamed as Chinese Language Department Fujian Normal University.
The Chinese Language department has gathered lots of talents. Many famous scholars have taught here. They have contributed a lot to the development of the development of the Chinese language department.
In May, 2000, the College of Chinese Language and Literature was founded on the basis of the Chinese language department. After several generations’ efforts, the School of Art is becoming more and more prosperous. Currently, it has one Chinese literature center for post-doctoral studies. Meanwhile, it was authorized to confer the doctoral degree of the first level discipline.
This college has 4 undergraduate programs including Chinese Literature, Chinese as a foreign language, etc. It also has 4 adult education programs, such as Chinese literature, foreign secretary, etc. Besides, it has 10 master students programs, such as Classical Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Chinese Philology, Literature and Art, Comparative Literature and World Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Theater and Chinese Traditional Opera, Literature Reading and literature education, etc. In addition, this school has 9 doctoral programs like Classical Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Literature Reading and literature education, etc.
