College of Transportation and Mapping was set in 2004. It has a faculty of 36 teachers, among which 7 teachers have PhD, and 16 Master degrees, including 6 professors, 2 assistant professors. Surveying Engineering, Geographical Information System, Transportation Engineering and Traffic Engineering are four specialties for bachelor degree with the total number of students at college being of 900. Moreover, the specialty of Geodetic Surveying and Survey Engineering has gained the Master gift.
At the beginning of this college, great efforts are paid on the improvement of teaching quality and that of research. Based on strict teaching regularities, rich experience and diligent work of the teachers, great achievements were made in teaching and research. On account of these, we have finished more than one hundred of programs for scientific research and technological service and a dozen of programs for educational reform research projects and published more than 120 research papers and more than 20 educational research papers. Besides, we also pay much attention on the improvement of disciplines. “Research on the mapping of surveying specialty and its teaching models” has win 3 rd -class prize in Hebei Province teaching achievement. The course book “Topographical Surveying” has got the 3 rd -class prize in surveying technology achievement. The course “surveying” has become outstanding course in Hebei province and the course “Geography Information System” has become excellent course in this university.
In addition, the college can provide you with perfect experiment system, inclusive of experiment center and integrated designed experimentation. There are 3 specialty laboratories, which are applied for surveying engineering, communication engineering, and geographical information system.

Surveying department
The surveying department, subordinating two bachelor majors and one master degree major, was founded in July 2004. Now it has a faculty of 16 teachers, among which there are 4 doctors and 8 masters, professors, inclusive of 2 assistant professors and 5 lecturers.
Educational reform research has been carried out actively in this department. “Research on the mapping of surveying specialty and its teaching models” has win 3 rd -class prize in Hebei Province teaching achievement. The course book “Topographical Surveying” has got the 3 rd -class prize in surveying technology achievement. The course “surveying” has become outstanding course in Hebei province. Moreover, advanced surveying and mapping instruments such as GIS software platform and GPS is capable to satisfy the need of special field experiment and experiment teaching. Consequently, the two bachelor specialties, surveying engineering and geographical information system have had complete personnel training curriculum. The specialty of Geodetic Surveying and Survey Engineering will begins to enroll postgraduate students in 2007.
Communication department
This department was set in July 2004. It subordinates two bachelor specialties. Now, it has a faculty of 14 professional teachers, among which there are 3 doctors and 7 masters, including 2 professors and 5 lecturers. We also have keen contact with the staff and engineers in the circle of communication engineering in Tang Shan, who has often come to give a favor on teaching and instruct the students with their graduation designing. Since it was founded, the communication department has actively developed the educational reform on the courses of communication engineering and transportation. In order to adapt itself to the need of the society, it has formed a complete training curriculum to improve the students' skills and social adaptability. Besides, it has a good environment to have various experiments that is connected with communication and transportation. Well equipped with advanced laboratory apparatus, the laboratory center is surely to meet all kinds of requirements on experimental duties.
