The predecessor of Mechanical Engineering College was the Department of Mechanical Engineering which was made up of the former agricultural machinery major of Hubei Agricultural Machinery College and light industrial machinery major of Hubei Light Industry College. In June, 2003, the department of mechanical engineering was renamed as Mechanical Engineering College with the approval of the university.
After over 20 years’ development, Mechanical Engineering College now has 5 departments and one experimental center. Besides, it has experimental teaching demonstration center of machinery foundation of Hubei Province, provincial level key laboratory of modern workmanship engineering. The total building area of the teaching experiment is nearly 5,000 square meters. And the total value of the equipments is over 20 million yuan.
Mechanical Engineering College has 149 teaching and administrative staffs. Of the 128 full-time teachers, 3 are doctoral tutors, 31 are master’s tutors, 24 are professors, 51 are associate professors and 20 are doctors. Besides, 2 of the teachers are cross-century academic leaders of Hubei Province, 5 are academic leaders of Hubei University of Technology, 12 are academic backbone, 5 are teaching backbone and 12 enjoy the expert allowance of the state council and special allowance of the Hubei Provincial Government. In addition, this college has a number of visiting professors who have studied abroad, etc.
Mechanical Engineering College now has 6 undergraduate programs, 10 master’s programs, 3 provincial level disciplines, 2 high-quality curriculums of Hubei Province, 18 key construction curriculums of the university, etc. Since 2002, this college has finished 382 scientific research projects of various types at state-level or provincial level. The total research funding amounts to over 37 million yuan. And it has won 7 teaching research achievement prizes of Hubei Province, 28 progress prizes in science and technology at provincial level or above. Besides, it has published over 800 academic theses and over 40 teaching materials and monographs.
In recent 3 years, this college has held 4 national academic conferences and 3 provincial academic conferences. It has also participated in the doctors’ cultivation of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. And it has established wide connection with many large or medium scale enterprises and research institutes.
At present, there are over 2,000 undergraduate students and 127 master degree candidates at Mechanical Engineering College. The employment rate of the undergraduate students is above 90%. The students of the college have won lots of awards in many contests, such as electronic design, English contest, Challenge Cup, etc.
