Located in Hohhot city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia University of Technology grew out of the former Suiyuan Higher Technical School. In 1958, with the support from Tsinghua University, Inner Mongolia Engineering College was founded, which was under the direct administration of the Ministry of Mechanical Industry and the Ministry of Agricultural Machinery. Since 1983, the college has been subordinate to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1993, the college was upgraded into Inner Mongolia University of Technology. Occupying an area of 3,178 Mu (212 hectares), the university consists of three campuses: Xincheng Campus, Jinchuan Campus and Junggar Campus.
