Mechanical Engineering Science of Jiangsu University was established in 1964, it was also one of the first master’s degree granting units in China, and obtained doctoral degree conferral right in 1998. MES, which was one of the first batch of Key Subjects in Jiangsu Province, posses first-level discipline of doctoral degree conferral right and post-doctoral research station now. MES currently offers 4 doctoral programs and 4 master degree programs in the discipline of Mechanic Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechanic Electronics Engineering and Vehicle Engineering. Mechanic Manufacturing and Automation is one of key disciplines for “the Tenth Five-Year Plan” in Jiangsu Province and construction national key disciplines for “the Eleventh Five-Year Plan”. Mechanical Design and Theory and Vehicle Engineering are both “the Tenth Five-Year Plan” and “the Eleventh Five-Year Plan” key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. The echelon of the discipline is the excellent echelon of “China High-tech Research and Development Plan” (Qing-lan project) in Jiangsu Province.

 

MES has an outstanding team of teachers and researchers, who are reasonable in knowledge structures and age distributions. And they are creative, resourceful, and innovative. There are 92 tutors of master degree candidates and 28 tutors of doctoral degree candidates, including 61 professors and 31 associate professors. There are about 750 recipients of the master degree and 80 recipients of PhD degree granted in MES. MES has an enrollment of 546 master candidates, and 94 doctoral degree candidates now.

 

MES has 20 research institutes (or centers), namely, Laser Technology Institute, Digitalized Manufacturing Institute, Precision and Super-Precision Processing Technology Institute, Moldering Technology Institute, Agricultural Engineering Institute, Manufacturing Information Research Center, Micro-nanometer Science and Technology Research Center, Intelligent Machinery & Robot Institute, Graphics Technology Institute, Auto and Motorcycle Institute, Vibration & Noise Institute etc. The Vehicle Product Laboratory has passed the national evaluation by the Chinese Committee of National Accreditation of Laboratory, and has become a nation-level vehicle product testing and inspection lab, entrusted to examine vehicle products for the CQC and CCAP. Institute of Modern Agricultural Equipment & Technology is a national construction key laboratory, a key laboratory of Jiangsu Province and a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education jointly financed by Jiangsu Province and Ministry of Education. The Science and Technology of Photon Manufacturing Laboratory and Material Tribology Laboratory are Jiangsu provincial key laboratories.

 

MES keeps a foothold in Jiangsu Province, and orients nation-widely. MES has formed its own features, unique strengths and achieved a series of high-level results in Agricultural Machinery Design and Theory, Laser Processing and Detection Technology, Micro-nano Manufacturing and Detection, High Precision Machining, Moldering and Forming Technology, Advanced Materials Manufacturing and Performance, Photonic Manufacturing Science and Technology, Micro-mechatronic System, Computer-aided Design and Computer Graphics, Systemic Monitoring and Controlling, Design and Manufacturing Based on Networks, Virtual Machinery Design and Virtual Assembly, Intelligent Machine and Robots etc. MES has undertaken over 140 projects and subprojects since 2001 from National Research Project for the Tenth Five-year Plan, key and ordinary projects of National Natural Science Foundation, the National 863 Project (a grand campaign by the Central Government to advance the nation’s science and technology), Aerospace Research Projects of National Defense, Provincial Natural Science Foundation Projects, etc. and over 250 research projects are from some enterprises and companies. MES has sufficient funds supporting scientific research, and its discipline characteristic is significant. 33 research projects have received ministerial/provincial or above scientific and technologic achievement awards. More than 60 research projects’ results have been certified by the provincial government for their scientific and technologic achievements. 60 inventions and patents for utility model have been authorized. MES has over 70 academic books and textbooks and more than 1700 papers published. Over 500 papers are indexed by SCI, EI, or ISTP. Thus, MES has made great contributions to advancement of science and technology, to regional and national economy.

 

MES pays attention to the educational quality of graduate students all the time and strengthen the combined education of industry-university-research. MES has Mechanical Engineering Industry-University-Research Demonstration Base of the Postgraduate of Jiangsu Province, Manufacturing Information Research Center of Zhenjiang City. It also keeps good cooperative relationships with numerous and famous enterprises, which promotes the developments of teaching, scientific research and discipline construction. MES has 30 excellent dissertations for doctor and master of Jiangsu Province since 2001. One dissertation was on the list of “National excellent doctorial dissertations” in 2006. Many doctoral students gained the support from the National Natural Science Foundation during their doctoral study period.

For international students, the deadline for admission is August 15 every year. The final decisions of admission are made upon application materials, examination record and health examination record. The Admission Letter will be sent out by the International Education Exchange College before August 15.

 

For Bachelor’s degree: Be in good health condition, have senior high school diploma and good academic record, have basic Chinese language ability for non-English courses, have good moral character, applicants who apply for Bachelor programs conducted in English should have certain English proficiency.
