It has been three decades since the establishment of the School of Philosophy and Sociology. In January 1975 it was set up the preparatory group of professional philosophy, in 1978 the establishment of the Philosophy Department and Admissions was formally fulfilled.
Through the years’ developments, nowadays there exists Marxist Philosophy and Chinese Institute of Philosophy, Foreign Philosophy and Technology Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Demography Institute of the three entities of teaching and research units, also has a Research Institute for Social Development Lanzhou University, Lanzhou University Center for Social Assessment Islamic Culture Research Center. Hosted "Science Economy Society" magazine, since 2004, it was listed as the Chinese Social Science Citation Index journals (CSSCI).
School of Philosophy and Sociology exists two undergraduate professionals and the school students are more than 300; it has Chinese Philosophy, Foreign Philosophy, science and technology, philosophy, Marxist philosophy, sociology and population study Master 6 points, one of sociology as an academic point , hundreds of graduate students at the school.
The existing staffs are 35 people, among them 25 people are full-time teachers; 6 professors, 10 people are associate professors. 3 people with a doctorate degree and another 3 who has a master's degree, 3 overseas students.

Entry requirements
Applicants must hold equivalent degrees with good results, in good health and aged 18 or above. Chinese Language requirement is HSK level 3 or above.
