Being one of the ten departments which were firstly constructed in the country after Sociology in 1979, the Department of Sociology, has a faculty member of 4 professors and 8 associate professors, and has educated over130 post-graduates and over120 undergraduates.

The Department boasts of longest history domestically in sociolgy education. It has 4 professors and 10 associate professors. It offers 2 Bachelor's degree programs, i.e. Sociology, Social Work, and 2 Master's degree programs, i.e. Sociology, Social Guarantee.

Taking an active role in scientific research, the Department has conducted more than 30 programs that were supported by the goverment, provinces or enterprises. Publications include over 1000 academic treatises, over20 specialized, translated works or textbooks. In addition, the department has emphasized instructing students in social practice.

As one of the earliest Department of Sociology founded nationally, the school offers two disciplines leading to a bachelor's degree (including sociology and social work) and one discipline leading to a master's degree (applied sociology). Currently, the school has four professors and ten associate professors. Some research aspects are listed in the top nationally, such as social research means, scientific sociology, economic sociology, industrial sociology, social issue research, social insurance, urban planning and community development.

The training mode has been formed that pay attention to fundamental theory and the practical ability. After four years study, the students are asked to have broad knowledge of a comprehensive talent, good theoretical accomplishment and social working ability.

The main courses are: introduction of sociology, method of social investigation, social statistics, applied computer, foreign sociology theory, social psychology, social work, social safeguard, studying on social issues, ublic policy, economic sociology, market investigation and forecast, etc. The tutorial system is carried out on the undergraduates. Several student societies have been established as the important base of training student's ability.

The graduates, who are working in governmental departments, news agencies, institutions and enterprises, have been highly praised.

The Department fosters domestic and foreign academic exchange and cooperation, with the USA, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. It has sent 8 people to participate in international academic meetings, teaching and visiting exchange, and has invited foreign scholars to visit or teach in China several times.
