College of Humanities and Law offers the following four Bachelor’s degree programs: English, Japanese, Law and Chinese Language and Literature and a subject-field higher vocational training program of business English to about 700 full-time students. It has four Master’s degree programs: Economic Law, Law Theory, Civil and Commercial Law, Ideological and Political Education, one second bachelor’s-degree program of Law. There are at present 102 teaching and administrative staff (inclusive of part-time teachers), including 6 professors, 27 associate professors, of whom Master’s and doctoral degree holders account for 70%, the college undertakes the tasks of offering such basic curricula as Principle of Marxist Theory, Ideological and Moral Self-cultivation, College Aesthetics, College Chinese, College English and postgraduate English to all the students of the university in addition to the instruction of the majors of the four Bachelor degree programs, and four Master’s degree programs.
The college has the following 6 teaching departments: Department of English, Department of Japanese, Department of College English, Department of Moral Education, Department of Aesthetics, and Department of College Chinese, as well as an Audio-Visual Center for Language Instruction, a Chinese Language Training Center for Foreign Students, and a Language & Culture Research Center. Centering all its activities on teaching and attaching increasing importance to humanistic and quality education, the college has made great efforts to build up its curricula to promote the teaching reform and improve the teaching standard. As a result, it has attained remarkable achievements in the teaching reform and curriculum design. Four of its common courses have been selected as the quality courses by the university. Meanwhile, the college has actively carried out academic research work to build up academic programs, thus having gradually formed clear-cut research directions and obtained satisfactory achievements. In recent years, the college has undertaken a great number of provincial or ministerial-level research projects, and has a series of treatises and literary works, translated works, teaching materials, dictionaries and over 100 academic papers published in a variety of journals and periodicals or presented at conferences and symposiums both at home and abroad.
