The College of Architecture offers the following two undergraduate programs: Architecture, a five-year program and Civil Engineering, a four-year program with the total number of 1,500 full-time students. The college has 52 well-proportioned teaching and administrative staff, who come mainly from Tsinghua University and other well-known universities in the country, including 10 professors, 13 associate professors, and 15 lecturers, of whom 6 are national first-class chartered architects, 7 national first-class chartered structure architects, and 7 PhD or post-PhD degree holders, all being young and vigorous in the prime of their life and having high theoretical achievements and practical experience in engineering. The faculties have high theoretical accomplishments and rich practical experience in engineering.
The College of Architecture consists of three teaching departments: Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Mechanics, as well as an experiment center composed of a Lab of Engineering Structure, a Lab of Mechanics, a Lab of Building Materials, a Lab of Building Models, and a Lab of Architectural Physics.
This college attaches great importance to the combination of scientific research with engineering practice. It has completed a great number of design tasks for important engineering projects, having won many prizes at national or international design contests or tenders, and made a mighty advance in such research fields as China’s urban residence construction technology, energy-saving of projects, city planning, urban traffic, new types of building materials, mechanical performance of frame node, micro-mechanical performance of materials, finite element line analysis for structural analysis of compound materials. Pursuing preciseness and rigorousness in its instruction, the college aims to train high-level application-oriented professionals, who, indeed, have added credit to the college by winning prizes at both national and international design contests and praises from their employers.
